Lubiere (3250), Ottawa, Ontario, Canada Sep 1, 2008 An amber lager with a creamy white thick head. Aroma of light caramel and grains. In mouth, a rather sweet nutty malt with good German hops. Oily mouthfeel. Medium bodied. Actually, not that bad. Bought at Alimara hotel bar, 2.80 E. Mid Nov. 2006. Adenila (633), Denmark Aug 20, 2008 Amber with a small white head. Vague alchohol and spicey aroma along with some wierd malty notes. Flavor is sweet malty with a good balanced alchohol and a sleightly tart and bitter finish. Pinball (417), Allerød, Denmark Aug 12, 2008 Yellow/orange, large fine white head, bitter and some sugar at the same time. decent strong ale. DarkElf (2650), La Jolla, California, USA Aug 12, 2008 14-Jul-08 (330-ml bottle, Best before Feb, 2009: Free sample bottle for stewarding the 2008 World Beer Cup in San Diego, CA) This is easily the best Spanish beer I’ve tried, but then again, I’ve only had a few mass-produced pale lagers. It’s very malty, mildly sweet, and does have a German-style worty quality, but also fairly prominent papery and corny elements toward the finish. Hops are very light, perhaps offering a touch of flavor and bitterness in the finish. The oxidized paper character is even more evident in the nose, with the German-style maltiness more a background aroma. Body is medium and carbonation is soft but sufficient. The beer is bright-amber in color with good clarity, and the smallish, off-white head fades to a partial filmy sheen and thin ring. Some scattered spots of lace remain on the glass. So while not a great Märzen-style beer and flaws are evident, it’s certainly acceptable, and if caught in Spain with no other beer to drink, this Doble Malta would keep me plenty happy. I’d be even happier with a nice Spanish wine though... trapez (192), Hilleroed, Denmark Aug 5, 2008 Bottle 0.2 l. Bought in Spain. Dark golden yellow colour with small white head. Rather weak malt aroma. Pleasant sweet malt flavour.
