COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION

Review based on the BJCP2008 guidelines (style 3B). Bottle 25 cl - Batch L2812B13. AROMA: cornish aroma with some rice notes and a mild sweet background. clean lager profile with some sulphur. APPEARANCE: slight dark yellow color and translucent. thin white head with below-average retention. TASTE: initial sweet malty character with moderate bitterness and a semi-dry finish. low malty complexity. PALATE: medium-low body with medium-low carbonation. OVERALL: a marzen wannabe without complexity.

While this brew is alright overall, it doesn't seem to know what it's trying to be. Crossover between a malt liquor, a Marzen, an imperial pils, kinda all over the place. Smells alright of corn/grain, caramel malt, strong pungent grassy hops, flavorful but not quite appetizing. Appearance is average, a clear tarnished gold color, soapy white head, not all that appetizing either. Taste is a bit better, features a overly sugary caramel maltiness, strong grassy marzen-style bitterness, and interesting vanilla and citrus accents. Negative corn adjunct notes though. Palate is average, light bodied, smooth with less carbonation. Different, industrial, high alcohol, has it's pros and cons, but I won't be drinking this one again.

(Voll-Damm (Doble Malta)) Bottle 330 ml at home, served into a glass tankard, ABV 7.2% Pours dark golden coloured beer, with lazy activity in a crystal clear body. Small and thin white head, with average retention, leaving minimal lacing after the foam has collapsed. Intense malty aroma, some corn. Stale bread, light grass. Taste has lots of malts too, lots of sugars as well. Notable alcohol but it drinks pleasantly. Mildly bitterness on the finish, good enough to break the initial sweetness down a bit. Some adjuncts too present. Medium body, carbonation on the low side. This one reminded me the all malts/sugar/alcohol strong beers in the supermarket, made to get you drunk fast and targeted to specific people, but I kind of liked it actually. Not one to drink fast though.
