Tap at barrel release 2 pours a nice thick Black and Tan head, aroma is bourbon, taste is a nice not overpowering bourbon with a nice thick mouth, lots of roast and the bourbon blends well with this beer, delicious

Waxed bottle. Poured a black color with a tan head. Bourbon, wood, chocolate, vanilla, some earthiness, caramel, and roasty. Some alcohol - to be expected at over 12%, but goes down nice and easy. I want some more of this one.

Growler shared by Dave. Man this was good. Aroma was wonderful. Fudge, bourbon, vanilla bean, chocolate, and toffee were all present. Pours black but not thick with a nice medium tan head. Taste was amazing with toffee, roast coffee, chocolate and vanilla. Super roasty mixed with vanilla cappuccino. Mouthfeel was tragically thin which is a shame. Made it easy to down this sucker though. Fantastic flavors. Perfect balance of roasty and sweet.

Pours tar black with an aroma of vanilla, roasted malt, and bourbon. Flavor of roasted malt, vanilla, dark fruit, and subtle but very present bourbon. One of the better beers I’ve had in a long time.

Bottle shared @ Woodshed 3.0 by way of Dak! Crazy generous dude! Dark mahogany pour with onyx, squid ink, and midnight at its core. Latte head. Surprised this didn’t stand up quite as well as its sister brew. Cocoa, vanilla, coffee, oak, and bourbon. Alcohol fairly well hidden. Clingy but not coating. Really good but not world class.

UPDATED: SEP 1, 2013 Bottle #404 12-14-12 shared from charule. Pours a deep black with a thin quickly disappearing brown head. Great Pappy alcohol aroma. Some aroma of chocolate. Some heat in the taste. Not as smooth as I would hope. Still quality. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone Got to have this again but on tap. Every bit as good as I remember. Maybe even a tad more smooth than before.

Bottle #404 12/14/12 picked up at Voodoo release. Poured black with a rim of tan foam. Pleasant aroma of bourbon choc and vanilla. Taste of strong choc and roastyness, slight boozy bourbon. Good stuff.

Bottle pour. Pours a dark brown to black. Big bourbon notes on the nose with a heavy malt backbone. Chocolate and wood notes coming through as well in the taste. Viscous mouthfeel.

Bottle (#225)... This beer’s balls drag the ground!… Pours dark brown with a small, creamy, khaki head. The bouquet is a swirl of malt whisky, dark mocha and toasted oak barrel. Full-bodied and velvety with modest carbonation. The flavor offers heaps of charcoal and other carbonic notes, bourbon and dark sherry without nearly as much bourbon heat or malty sweetness as I was expecting. Bold, warming, Pappy finish. The Pappy nuance is lovely and unmistakable. Another world class rarity provided by the ever-generous landhoney! All barrel-aged imperial stouts should be aged in PVW barrels in my humble, yet correct, opinion.

Of note: I realize PVW is a Kentucky-brewed and distilled sourmash whiskey; but to me, Pappy has always smelled more like an Irish malt whisky or Macallan brand Scotch whiskey than a Kentucky corn-heavy bourbon.
