COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
This Is our Imperial Stout that we age in conditioning tanks with oak staves. This adds a classic character of old world aging with out the Bourbon tones. This black ale is about 12% alc. and very rich in roasted and chocolate malt tones. Velvety smooth and able to be aged for years.

Sampled from a bottle opened by boltz777 -- thanks, Jason! Pours espresso in color with a trim tan head. Smells predominantly of toasted malt and coffee grounds. Builds on these flavors with added notes of milk cocoa, and vanilla. Really sweet on the palate and quickly dries on the finish. Not bad, but certainly not ambitious.

Bottle at home, courtesy of Dave. Thanks man! Pour is deep brown with a frothy tan head. Vanilla, graham crackers, matshamallows, roast, earthy hops, and coffee in the aroma. Taste is rich chocolate, espresso, vanilla, graham crackers, toast, and spicy hops with a roasted bitter finish. Medium body with soft carbonation. Nice stout.

Bomber from jbwimer. Big thanks! Pours pitch black with a half inch head, super creamy looking and brown. Massive roasty and chocolate aroma with some light oakiness in the background, and maybe a slight bit of dark fruits in there. Flavor is huge roasty chocolates, more roast mid palate, finishing with sweet but not too sweet chocolate sauce. There is a good balancing smoke to this from the roasty grains that makes it to down way too easy. Big rich mouthfeel with medium carbonation that is right on. Would take this over Expedition any day. What a great beer. I can see how this would take well to barrel aging. Nearly perfect non-liquor-barrel-aged impy right here for me. Big, bold, rich flavors and plenty drinkable.

Bottle, shared at the Boxing Day tasting at TimEs place in Calgary. Near black with a frothy light brown head. Aroma of milk chocolate (or maybe chocolate milk) with brothy undertones. Lovely blackened malt flavours of coffee bean, chocolate, and aniseed, some malty soy sauce too. Rich with a dry bitter roast finish. Fantastic.

Bottle - Vintage 2009 - Milk chocolate, slight soy. Jet brown/black with a decent brown head. Unfortunately there is a bit of booze in the flavour, anise, soy and espresso. Nice and rich.

Thanks to Tanger for this as an extra in a box of snacks, cheers Jon! Bottled: dunno A: Pours a typical dark, black stout. Cocoa powder head <1 finger dissipates quickly and leaves a thin sheet of the same. Hugs the rim tenaciously and leaves cobweb lacing. Cant see through this monster - no light (edging only) S: Ahhh, dont understand why every brewery these days thinks the only way to mature and intensify a beer is in bourbon bals. Oak is beautiful, and adds the vanilla tones, earth and wood notes to turn this impy into a potential epic. Well crafted cocoa, graham, malt sexy, with lower tones of booze and chinooks add a layer I had not anticipated. Fantastic. T: Roasty, coffee, bitterness, dark chocolate, biscuits, smoke, leather, tobacco. I let this beer sit out for over an hour before cracking it (as I do with big stouts), and I believe this lent itself to allowing the characteristics to highlight and weave - particularly in the finish. Lots of dark chocolate, biscuit, medium toasted oak. Charcoal! M: Velvet, oily, smooth and chewy. The beer resonates for minutes provided the latching onto my palate, tongue, teeth and larynx. D: Pfft, I was hesitant in trading for this beer in particular, now I have been converted. Goddamn fine beer. I wish the date was known on the bottle, I will presume 2010 on this bottle, but am certain this could sit for a year or two and additionally highlight the body/feel of the beer and begin to present some plummy notes with more cocoa and tobacco flavors. Excellent beer. Serving type: bottle 03-10-2011

2011 bottle from Jim. Thanks! A: Solid midnight black with a light mocha head thats everlasting. N: Smoke, coffee, char, caramel, malt. Touch of oxidation, some cola, and lactose. T: Coffee bittereness with a hefty sweet malt and some caramelization. Has really blended together. M: Medium-heavy body with a with a slight stickiness. Alcohol is well hidden. O: Very good RIS that is complex and balanced via malt and smoke.
