Shared this one with a bunch of close friends and Matthew Allyn, Brewmaster at Voodoo.

A - Pours black as night with a nice one finger tall khaki colored head, slowly dissipating down to a light film, leaving small trails of lace down the sides of the glass.

S - Smells of warm bourbon, vanilla, fudgey chocolate, coconut, dark fruits, caramel, oak and plenty of dark roasted malts. Definitely the best nose of the three, just smells incredible.

T - Starts off much like the BT version does with a big dose of sugary sweetness; mainly vanilla beans and chocolate fudge batter again; quickly giving way to hints of coconut, dark fruits, tobacco, woody oak and a mild amount of warming bourbon. Finish is pretty sweet with a bit of heat, lingering long after the finish. While the BT version is rough, this is the epitome of smooth.

M - Heavy body with moderate carbonation. Big, smooth feel with a nice warming booze burn at the end of each sip. Definitely the smoothest, most well integrated of the three thanks to that magic pappy barrel.

O - This is easily my favorite of the three, which is saying something because I really liked the other two. It has all of the flavors I love, as well as being aged in my favorite bourbon barrels, and despite the large ABV it remains fairly easy to consume. Looking forward to seeing how this one develops in the years to come, could get even better.

Bottle # 847. Dark brown pour with fleeting light brown head. Fantastic chocolate nose. Delicious with loads of chocolate, carmel, bourbon, and oak notes. Sweet, but not overly so. Outstanding mouthfeel with a good body. Would never know this is 15%. Bravo…..

12 oz. Bottle, reviewed 06/02/2013, thanks to Mac! Pours black, little head but nice hazy foam on the surface, thin ring of lacing. Aroma is coconut, touch of vanilla, chocolate and cocoa powder, smooth roast and bourbon. Taste is smooth chocolate, caramel, toffee vanilla, toasted coconut and bourbon, nice boozy kick, delicious. Thick palate, chewy, delicious. Really stunning, definitely a top-tier stout.

Bottle (12 oz). Shared by Pier-Luc & Julien, thanks guys! Black with a small dark brown head and little to no lacing. Aroma is of Whiskey, chocolate, boozy notes, vanilla, caramel and roasted malt. Taste is heavily sweet with whiskey, chocolate, vanilla, caramel, oak, alcohol, roasted malt and light fruity notes. Alcohol warming. Full bodied. Low to moderate carbonation. Thick and sirupy mouthfeel. This is a very complex RIS, but a bit hot and too sweet. Not in the same league as BCS Rare (for a PVW aged beer) in terms of complexity and balance.

Bottle. Oily black pour with almost no head. Intense bourbon aroma, a little reminiscent of rare, lots of chocolate, sweet vanilla bean/bourbon notes. Taste is sweet, very rich, chocolatey and vanilla flavors. Palate is a little slick, very low carb, somewhat oily. Good, but far from great.

Pours dark with a faint brown ring that hugs my glass. There is no head from PvW Black Magik. The aroma is of a defined sweet bourbon with vanilla, oak, and carmel. In the background one can notice the roasted coffee and malts creeping in nicely. Personally I find the aroma wonderful but it had too much booze that took away from what makes the core scent of the Black Magik so good. As for the flavor it is remarkable. The alcohol is well masked and the combination of the ingredients is surprisingly smooth and is not heavy. It goes down very nice. The flavor stuck around even with the high alcohol content. I could taste dark sweet carmel malts, vanilla, oak, bitter dark chocolate, and bitter buttery coffee. The PvW blends more than dominates in flavor which is hard to do in many cases that I?ve noticed the use of PvW aging. The finish was warming, pleasant, and tasteful. It will impact the palate but it is worth it. What more do you need to taste after this? Overall I enjoyed this beverage very much. Originally I was not expecting much here but I did not mind being wrong with the PvW BA Black Magik.

The winner both of the Black Magick variants, but also better than the BBVD PVW. Dark black body, thin dark brown head, minimal lacing. Pappy barrels make themselves known with vanilla, oak, booze, dark chocolate, fudge, brownie, caramel, light roast, brown sugar, and ganache. Full bodied, smooth, but thick on the palate. Gentle carbonation, great lingering finish that allows one to savor the flavors. A little sweet, but manageable, a little hot, but certainly expected and not distracting. Very nice.

UPDATED: JUL 19, 2013 Pour is jet black with an extremely dark coffee brown, darker than buffalo trace. Nose does not have the same nuttiness, the whiskey barrel is much smoother and seems more integrated and the whiskey itself is less sweet. The cake batter notes are a little lighter with the sweetness residing in the back. Body is also thick and rich, stronger carbonation, chewy. Taste is huge, lots of barrel and whiskey well integrated up front. Flavor has some chocolate cake batter with loads of dark chocolate. Sweet malt complexity a bit less sweet than buffalo trace. Decent heat in back, less than buffalo trace with a lingering wood and rich chocolate lingering. Seems more well integrated and less sweet. I prefer this.

Bottle shared by Mike with Jason, Hayden, and Bill. Thanks for holding this for me brah. Pours deep black, so rich with barrel, pappy, toffee, fig, and so many layers of chocolate, vanilla, rich booze. Light to medium body. Never got hot, awesome b.a. Stout.
