Big thanks to MikeLovesBeer for sharing this one. This was 10’ vintage I believe. Still hot and could use another year of aging perhaps. Bourbon all over the place. Heavy on the chocolate and sweet malt flavor as well. Overall damn good but would like to see how it ages some.

Voodoo horizontal. A well balanced beer, emphasizing the bitterness of the hops and roasted malt. Chocolate and coffee in the secondary. Smooth, thick mouthfeel. Bourbon, chocolate, roast in the nose. Very dark brown with little head. Rich experience, aging has given it some notes of cognac.

Black as night with a tan head that faded quickly. Aroma is sweet, malty, and all the smells you would associate with a bourbon aged beer. Taste is great as the flavors change and flow wonderfully across the tongue from the start to the finish. My only compliant is the finish is a little boozy and over takes the bourbon flavor at the end that I really want on my tongue.

Tons of bourbon in the nose, lots of sweetness ,dark ripe fruits, chocolate, vanilla, residual sugar. Black ass beer with the darkest brown head I have ever seen. Roast, dark and burnt malts, booze, lots of bourbon, really hot but not extremely unpleasant. Could probably have used some age however to tone it down a bit. Sweeter dark malts and residual sugars show up in the end.

12oz bottle from Capone’s, Norristown. Enjoyed with hopsleeroy and a Halloween posse, and certainly seemed tailored to the day. Oily pour, although not especially thick. Virtually no carbonation, and this one’s halfway (at least) to being a liqueur. Huge bourbon nose with sharp wood and anise, a hint of a chocolate base. Mouthfeel is slick and the palate isn’t nearly as hot as I’d feared. Flavors aren’t quite so dominated by bourbon although they certainly do lean heavily in that direction. Bitter chocolate, vanilla from the oak, and the faintest hint of char. Pretty good but I think I’m wearying of this kind of beer.

12 oz. bottle from michael-pollack- thanks, Pollack! Pours a dark, opaque brown with almost no head, just a small beige ring. The aroma initially pops with a port or sherry-like booziness, with dark fruit and anise. As it warms it becomes more bourbon-like, and caramel and vanilla show up. Flavor of caramel, bourbon, oak, anise, dark fruits, and dark malts. Medim-bodied, with a sticky mouthfeel and low to moderate carbonation. Nice sweet bourbon finish. I liked this just a tad more than the Big Black Voodoo Daddy, but I was in the minority in my tasting group.
