COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
This is an Imperial Stout that is of great strength and complexity. We then gently age that beer in Elaigh Craig 13 1/2 year old Bourbon Barrels for 6 months to 1 yr. and then primed and bottled to bottle condition for continued aging and celler life. Black Magick should be able to be aged up to about 5 years, to heighten the complexity and smooth nature of this beer. First Black Magick brewed in Feb 2007. Released 2009. = 15% ABV Second Black Magick brewed in 2009 and released 2011. = 15.5% ABV

The aroma on this thing is terrifying. Seriously. So much bourbon, and itís not even smoothed out by anything, I was almost afraid to take a drink...and then when I did the taste was totally different. Itís still rough, to be sure, lots of huge bourbon notes up front, but itís quite tasty, and not at all what the nose suggests itís going to be.

Bottle thanks to pantanap. Pours a thick dark black with a tan ring of a head. Soy and bourbon are strong in the nose. Sweet sherry, cough syrup, maple syrup, rich and boozy. When I swirl it that soy nearly becomes unbearable but it fades to tolerable levels of alcohol and syrup. Sweet sherry, red fruit, lots of bourbon, chocolate flavors,. Chocolate drying finish from that booze.

15,5%? Hand bottle filled correctly, thanks santa! Black pour with just a few bubbles trying to break through. Up front bourbon in a very nice way. Flavor has some licorice, toffee, vanilla, wood, plums, booze, raisins. Heavy handed with the tobacco, this one finishes very rich and almost smoky. Nice.

Black glops fall to perhaps the darkest brown head that Iíve seen. Very sweet nose strongly of vanilla, bourbon, and chocolate. Major bourbon washout in the flavor, also wood, alcohol, roast, and brownie. Rather watery body and finish given the weight. Roast and alcohol burn linger. It started off un-cohesive and went downhill from there.

huge thanks to bu11zeye for this one. pitch black pour with a dark espresso head. incredible nose of vanilla, bourbon, roasted malts and more vanilla. great on the palate with a huge vanilla bourbon flavor and a smooth roasted chocolate finish. incredible beer.

Bottle: Poured a deep pitch-black stout with a motor oil consistency and a small foamy head with good retention and some lacing. Aroma of roasted malt is detectable but mainly dominated by bourbon notes. Taste is also dominated by bourbon notes with a bit too much alcohol for my taste with light vanilla finish. Body is full with good carbonation and alcohol is too apparent. Very well done but I canít say I enjoy barrel-aging with alcohol is so present.

bottle, thanks to bu11zeye, black color with short lived brown head, aroma of vanilla, white out, elmers glue, per Lumpy mead like, very nice, flavor is winey, strong fruit, alcohol, beef jerky bourbon, strong whiskey finish

Bottle thanks to bu11zeye. AWESOME BEER! Pours extremely viscous with a small fading brown head. The black body underneath is glass coating. Aroma is sick (in a good way!!)! Bourbon, vanilla, fudge, wood, licorice, and alcohol. Taste is barrel, wood, vanilla, chocolate, lightly lactic with some nuts an umami. Viscous mouthfeel with light carbonation. This stuff is great!

bottle supplied by the generous efforts of Tronraner. Obviously Iím expecting a thick, burning, syrupy beast at 15% abv, but this wasnít quite like that. Itís black and viscous, but not extreme. No head forms. This basically smells like whiskey. Vanilla, charred oak, and a faint chocolate note. I sip with caution and am not really overwhelmed. It is comparable to sipping whiskey it even lacks the thick, sticky malts that often accompany barrel aged imperial stouts. No serious alcohol burn is present which makes me question the 15% claim, but I did feel rather nice after just 6 oz. This is pretty great for a slow sipper.
