COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
This is an Imperial Stout that is of great strength and complexity. We then gently age that beer in Elijah Craig 13 1/2 year old Bourbon Barrels for 6 months to 1 yr. and then primed and bottled to bottle condition for continued aging and cellar life. Black Magick should be able to be aged up to about 5 years, to heighten the complexity and smooth nature of this beer.

Bottle: Poured a deep pitch-black stout with a motor oil consistency and a small foamy head with good retention and some lacing. Aroma of roasted malt is detectable but mainly dominated by bourbon notes. Taste is also dominated by bourbon notes with a bit too much alcohol for my taste with light vanilla finish. Body is full with good carbonation and alcohol is too apparent. Very well done but I can’t say I enjoy barrel-aging with alcohol is so present.

Bottle thanks to bu11zeye. AWESOME BEER! Pours extremely viscous with a small fading brown head. The black body underneath is glass coating. Aroma is sick (in a good way!!)! Bourbon, vanilla, fudge, wood, licorice, and alcohol. Taste is barrel, wood, vanilla, chocolate, lightly lactic with some nuts an umami. Viscous mouthfeel with light carbonation. This stuff is great!

bottle supplied by the generous efforts of Tronraner. Obviously I’m expecting a thick, burning, syrupy beast at 15% abv, but this wasn’t quite like that. It’s black and viscous, but not extreme. No head forms. This basically smells like whiskey. Vanilla, charred oak, and a faint chocolate note. I sip with caution and am not really overwhelmed. It is comparable to sipping whiskey it even lacks the thick, sticky malts that often accompany barrel aged imperial stouts. No serious alcohol burn is present which makes me question the 15% claim, but I did feel rather nice after just 6 oz. This is pretty great for a slow sipper.

bottle, thanks to kan. pours black with tan head. nose of bourbon!, alc, chocolate. flavors of soy, woody, chocolately, bourbon. that touch of soy kills the flavor.

12oz bottle from a recent trade..... pours a dull close to black pour with a non-existent head.... aroma is hugely bourbon-laden and green apple.... flavors are huge on the bourbon and not completely sweet. finishes a bit sour while the middle was on the sweet soy side. minimally carbonized. finish is a bit hot...

Shared by pepsican. Poured an opaque black color with a brown head. Smelled boozy, kind of like a liqueuer. Whiffs of vanilla, fig, and prune greeted the nose. Full bodied and slightly sweet with light roasty bitterness. Rich flavors of dark fruit, molasses, and roasted malt emerged. There was a warming alcohol effect that peaked at the end and was accompanied by a hint of scotch flavor. Good stuff.

Bottle shared by wetherel with Katie, Jon and myself at our place in Del Mar. Thanks John! Still, oily black appearance. Not much carbonation. Aroma is slammed with bourbon whiskey and charred oak wood. Pretty damn strong, nearly caustic. Nose seemed like it had a bit of oxidation, though Im not sure. Flavor is saucy bourbon with a mild tartness mixed with more burnt wood. Overal its a bit overwhelming. Kind of an oily mouthfeel, that ends dry when the bourbon fire goes out. Pretty gnarly stuff, but if you like bourbon like I do, its pretty good.
