4.4 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20
Pitch black and opaque with a two finger beige head that slowly settles into a thick, lasting ring. Decent retention for the style and ABV with spotty streaks of lacing left behind.
Deeply roasted dark malt aroma with strong cinnamon spice and roasted chillies. Barrel is very faint with subtle oak and brandy sweetness. The roast and pepper are countered by luscious chocolate malt sweetness. Some chalky, peppery heat standing out in the nose. Slightly burnt malt character with coffee bean and toast along with caramel sweetness, light cocoa, toffee and bakers chocolate. Smells excellent with a great spice/pepper presence but could use a bit more brandy barrel.
Full end of medium body with a strong spicy pepper kick that lingers over the barrel notes and complex malt bill into a spicy, dry finish. Peppers excellently complimented by heavy cinnamon spice. Subtle dry oak with delicate char and very faint brandy apple sweetness that stands out as it warms. Roasted malt with coffee bean, burnt sugar, and toast countered by luscious chocolate malt sweetness. Awesome beer!

3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
2014-08-16. Black body with a small tan head. 3++ Aroma of dark malt, light roast accents. Flavour is dry, dusty roast cocoa accents over dark malt with some chilis that grow significantly more prominent as you go. Smooth average bodied palate, soft carbonation. Just enough spicey heat to put me off personally but a decent beer nonetheless. Bottle at Campground Brewdown

4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
Served on-tap at Perch Pub during the Voodoo/Perennial event during Philly Beer Week.
A - Pours ink black with a nice one finger tall tan head, quickly dissipating down to a light film, leaving small streaks of lace on the sides of the glass.
S - Smells of fresh ground cinnamon, dried pepper skins, chocolate, vanilla, day old coffee, woody oak, dash of hops, apple jack and plenty of dark roasted malts. It smells spot on for the deScription, maybe a touch to cinnamon forward but thats nit picking.
T - Starts off with the chocolatey sweetness quickly being joined by the warming peppers, coffee, oak, apples and the ever present dark roasted malt. Finish is sweet with some peppery spice and light booze, lingering long after the finish.
M - Medium-Heavy body with moderate to low carbonation. Feel is best described as sweet heat. The booze grows as it warms up, getting a touch out of control as it fully warms.
O - A bit more refined than the original version but overall they are about the same in the grand scheme of things. I would definitely drink it again but I wouldnít go overboard trading for it.

Woodshed 3.0! Big thanks to dak for saving this whole series and sharing with us. Awesome!! Bottle #071 pours with a dark mahogany colored body and minimal head. The aroma offers up dark roasted malts, dark roasted coffee, some vanilla and some marshmallow and a mild chili pepper note. The taste starts with dark roasted malts, smooth molasses, chocolate and smooth brandy like booze. It then flows into a nice chili pepper heat note riding with the chocolate and a faint cinnamon spice sensation into the finish. This has pleasing richness and balance.
