3.3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
12 oz bottle. Pours a slightly hazy yellow gold body with a large frothy white head. The nose is heavily spiced with orange peel and coriander and some yeast derived spice. Prominant Belgian tripel yeastiness. The flavor comes across decidely less spiced than the nose let on. Still a good bit of coriander though. There’s maybe a minor contribution from the juniper berries, but it’s minimal. Nice yeast profile. Light bodied and fizzy with a long lingering spicy finish. Oddly enough, the carbonation lends itself well to burping, where the juniper berries really come out. Decent Wit, with a unique twist coming from the juniper.

4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
The Voodoo brewers were pouring their own brews for a tasting at Bocktown this past Wednesday. I sampled the 6 available and later got this one on-tap last night.
A- Body is a hazy golden yellow color that has about 1/2 finger white head that retains well. Cloudiness is thick and uniform.
S- whoa spiciness. This is loaded with coriander and peppercorns. Definitely the main characters here. Underneath this is floral hops and some yeast.
T- Taste is pretty similar to the smell. Lots of spices upfront with a touch of floral hop taste and a substantial yeast back bone and mild citrus buried somewhere deep within. The spices intensify for the finish as some floral hop bitterness arises. Coriander and peppercorn flavors linger.
P-Medium carbonation and a light drinkable body. I wish the yeast was more present here-but still good.
O- This is definitely not your typical witbier...but hey that’s the point! Wouldn’t life be boring if all witbiers tasted the same? This is a pretty good beer and one I will have again...besides it was pretty cool to talk to the brewers about all the work they put into making their beers. Easy to drink and a nice twist to the style.

A nice value considering I picked this up as a single in Pennsylvania this beer was still somewhat pedestrian. I have two or three other Voodoo beers to try. After this one I am recalibrating my expectations downwards. This was not a terrible beer but simply run of the mill. Nothing about it had a wow factor but at the same time there were no major flaws.
Aroma / Appearance - Loads of foam took their sweet time sinking into a carbonated golden base. Orange peels, coriander, ginger, and white pepper make this crisp and sharp. The dryness is like a good champagne. I think this might pair well with sushi based on the aroma alone.
Flavor / Palate - Light and peppery this is a tart Belgian style beer. Pineapples, orange rinds, allspice, and then some solid hops play against one another. Delicate and sensitive the mouthfeel is airy. The aftertaste is too aggressive for the style which detracts a bit from what would otherwise make a nice sessionable beer to pair with fish. Overall I feel indifferent about this bottle.

3.1 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
Pours a hazy light golden orange color with light yellowish orange hues when held to a light source and two finger frothy white head that slowly fades into a thin lasting ring. Minimal spots of lacing.
Sweet citrus aroma with hints of orange and lemon peel along with a prominent bready yeast character and zesty spice. I’m picking up some peppery spice and possibly corriander as well.
Heavily carbonated up front with a thin body which contains a lot of citrus flavor and peppery spice. Slightly dry finish. There lots of orange peel and other citrus fruit flavor that is balanced by spicy pepper and corriander as well a some sweet alcohol. Decent I guss but nothing I would seek out again.
