DocLock (4083), Lower Pottsgrove, Pennsylvania, USA Oct 8, 2007 Bottle from Capone’s. Pours dullish coppery dark strawish with very little off-white head that quickly dissipates and never returns. This one looks like crap, to be honest. Aroma is spicy malt, florals, some citrus, some apricot. The taste is malty, clovey, spicy, with some orange zest and white peppery notes. Not terribly complex, but I can’t doubt the uniqueness of this one. bu11zeye (3628), Frisco, Texas, USA Jun 29, 2008 (22oz. bottle) Pours a lightly hazy amber with a small white head. Aroma of juniper berries, orange pulp, black pepper, dough, and lemon. Flavor of coriander, black pepper and orange peel. Dickinsonbeer (2512), Hoboken, New Jersey, USA Oct 10, 2007 Probably one of thier least favorites along with the IPA. Still decetn beer, just nothing special. Lemony yeasty character, citrus, doughy yeast and bread- wheat. Phenolic and spicy flavor with more yeast and a weak finish. TomDecapolis (2389), Skippack, Pennsylvania, USA Mar 1, 2008 Sample at PCBF 08. Pours a lightly hazy golden with a smaller bubbly white head. Aroma of wheat, Belgian yeast esters, coriander, lots of various peppery notes and some orange. Flavor was more of the peppery notes, interesting spiciness, orange, Belgian yeast and sweet maltiness. Nate (2212), Indiana, Pennsylvania, USA Oct 10, 2007 Bomber. I can see how many will miss the more subtle notes of this beer; very delicate. As it warms up a bit, sitting in a snifter, the aromas blossom a bit more. First, there is the pepper. Undoubtedly, the strongest pepper/peppercorn aroma I’ve ever encountered. The juniper berries come next, with the sweet gin tang. A bit of orange blossom and light coriander, though not a lot. Definitely a delicate nose and easy to miss. Mild tripel sweetness and light honey. Pours with a pale dull copper-amber, hazy, with non-descript off-white head. Very little lacing. Medium watery body with medium carbonation, thin but also quenching. Starts with medium tripel-wit sweetness, wheaty yet with a chalky yeastiness. Peppercorns and sweet orange essence attack next. A spicy beer, for sure, but not overbearing. Mild watery gin taste, light coriander. Overall, a bit watery with carbonic tang. Fruity juniper and pepper finish, with light chalky tripel-yeast-sweet after. I like this, but could use a bit more body to it.
