wcampbell (387), Lewisburg, Pennsylvania, USA Mar 20, 2008 I have no Idea why this is rated so low. I really enjoyed this beer. Nice, heavier body for a witbier. Great wheat, spice, and light berry flavor. Lightly peppery finish, but nothing overpowering. Highly drinkable and refreshing. No alcohol presence.
GuilTTy (439), Cherry Hill, New Jersey, USA Jul 12, 2008 Bottle. Light sunflower and hazy pour under a thin white head with short retention. Lots of close and yeast in the aroma. Flavor of sour apples, lemon zest and funky barnyard dust. Thin texture but a crisp finish. This voodoo magic isn’t the good kind. Dorwart (1593), Robbinsville, New Jersey, USA Jun 29, 2008 Thin white head of fine bubbles. Light carbonation. Light spices and fruity aroma. Some oranges, corriander and talcum powder. Light malts also. Clean and crisp flavor. More spices, bready malts and a bit of resious hops. Palate is dry and very clean. Light alcohol tingle. Finishes malty and spicy. Some lingering pepper and bitter orange. A decent witbier. bu11zeye (3572), Frisco, Texas, USA Jun 29, 2008 (22oz. bottle) Pours a lightly hazy amber with a small white head. Aroma of juniper berries, orange pulp, black pepper, dough, and lemon. Flavor of coriander, black pepper and orange peel. Heathen (464), Riverside, New Jersey, USA Jun 20, 2008 THOUGHTS: I start by saying it’s an awful wit, but I know the brewer had to a pick a category for this beer even though it is one of those hybrid beers that shouldn’t be categorized. It is a very interesting beer though. Once the yeast is poured it is almost like a cross between a dunkelweizen and a wit. A nice beer, but not great.
TECHNICAL: Bottle. Poured a hazy, very light brown that sort of looked like dirty water, but it had the most beautiful carbonation I’d ever seen in a beer. But that soon dwindled. Although I gave it a 3 for appearance it would get a 1 if rated this purely as a wit. There was an average to large, fizzy, white head that kept a fairly thick sheet. The beer was darker once the yeast was poured. The aroma was some citrus (orange) hops, lots of spices, wheat and berries (I guess juniper). After the yeast there was also light milk chocolate and some bubble gum. The initial flavor was lightly sweet and bitter and moderately acidic; while the finish was moderately sweet, lightly to moderately acidic, lightly bitter and sour with and average duration. There was wheat, orange, berries, yeast and spices. The light to medium body was a little watery at first, but then mostly dry with fizzy carbonation and a light to moderate astringent finish. Also some of the carbonation seemed to be felt going down the throat. Swalden_28 (516), McKinney, Texas, USA Jun 16, 2008 Bottle, thanks to Bu11zeye.
Pours a hazy light amber with white head, ok retention. Aroma is of dominate apple juice....Taste is peppery with citris orange peel. High carbonation with light somewhat watery mouthfeel. Not a bad beer....
