acrdz (4361), Boulder, Colorado, USA Oct 4, 2008 22oz bottle, probably 2-3 months old. Awful nose heavy with mold, spoiled fruit and buttered cocoa. Flavor is slightly less offensive but doesn’t redeem this beer. Acidic butter suggest a slight infection, and it’s especially offensive and putrid up front, but to it’s credit it cleans up in the back, where the slightly-sweet chocolate malt note is more prominent. DocLock (4170), Lower Pottsgrove, Pennsylvania, USA Oct 9, 2007 Upon first looking at the label, I wish they had named this one "Wynona Judd’s Big Brown Ass". Oh well. The pour is ruddy, middy burnt sienna with khaki head that is rather clingy and makes great lace sheets. The aroma is heavy on the nuts, with almond, walnut, hazelnut, some brown sugar, and chocolate notes. The taste is nutty, with a lot of brown malt, plus some brown sugar hints at mid-palate and some chocolatey flavor in the finish. This is truly one of the better brown ales I have ever quaffed. egajdzis (3013), Terrapin, Pennsylvania, USA Oct 7, 2007 Poured a dark mahagany color with a small, light tan head that left nice lacing on the glass. Aroma of roasted malts, light chocolate, molasses, and nuts. Taste of roast, smoke, nuts, and light oak, with some chocolate as well. One of my favorites from the Voodoo line actually. Dickinsonbeer (2550), Hoboken, New Jersey, USA Oct 10, 2007 This was a solid brown ale. Pours with low carbonation and a thin head- deep brown body. Aroma is nutty toasty and good amounts of chocolate- sharp caramel hint sweetness. Flavor is a sharp nutty chocolate, light orast and some ashy black malts, caramel and toffee sweetness with a dry earthy finish. Nice brown overal.. Nate (2253), Indiana, Pennsylvania, USA Jun 8, 2008 From bottle. Light chocolate and caramel malt with decent sweetness and light hoppy nose. Quite a bit of metallic tinge and some carbonic gaseousness. A bit of dusty grain. Dark, dark brown clear with a huge foamy light tan lacing head. I didn’t get a gusher, but it definitely has quite a high level of carbonation. Medium body with heavy carbonation - a little bit of carbonic burn. Starts with decent caramel and chocolate sweetness, toasted grain and neutral fruit. Carbonic acidity and bitter coffee grounds, ending with a medium dry hop quality. Nice bittering with a sweet nutty bitter after.
