HumuloneRed (750), Portland, Oregon, USA Jun 13, 2004 Pours a cloudy pinkish orange. Nice head. Not much lacing. Pienapple/citrus aroma. Nice tart/sour flavor with some coriander and orange. Light finish. Silphium (2114), Haslett, Michigan, USA Jun 7, 2004 Poured a cloudy peach color, with a thin off-white head and abundant, rather nasty-looking yeast sediment. Aroma of pear, pineapple, and other citrus- quite tart and sweet. Flavor is very sour and tart with lemon, pear, orange peel, and tangy wheat malt. Very fruity. Unusual for a witbier, yet good. I don’t find it too spicy, but if you don’t like tart beers, avoid Vuuve! Shag (1922), Chattanooga, Tennessee, USA Jun 6, 2004 Aroma is floral with some bread, lemons, and oranges. Apperance is a murky yellowish/orange. The flavor is an overkill in the spice department. A very sour citrus fruit flavor with a hot pepper/tobassco spice to it. Is that vinegar I taste? This is the Cave Creek Chili Beer of Wits. This has to be one of the weirdest drinking experiences Ive ever had. Overall its just to spicy to be enjoyable. Blech! diabel (1366), Aarschot, Belgium Jun 3, 2004 Orange cloudy body. No head. Yeasty, orange aroma. Lightly bitter aroma, moderately sour flavour. Less than average. walleye (876), Sterling Heights, Michigan, USA May 20, 2004 poured like cider no head no lacing.aroma yeast, spicey ,orange, lemony. flavor, orange lemon, yeast sour. This tasted like one of those cider packets you buy to make hot cider and you let it sit and get cold was not impressed with this one. almost didn’t finish this theakston (64), arlington, Virginia, USA May 20, 2004 pale orange. yeast well packed on he bottom of the bottle - didn’t shake it up. aroma is floral and orange. first taste is sour, almost like a saison, quite refreshing. Not much sweetness, a little thin but interesting and refreshing. Sham (1846), Seattle, Washington, USA May 15, 2004 Amber gold pour leaning more towards the gold. The head left rather quickly leaving me wanting. Spicy aroma, oranges, nice hints of coriander and wheat. More spice in the flavor. The orange citrus has become bitter. The wheats are tasting a little stale. The carbonation levels on this beer are rather low. The finish is a touch spicy and bitter from the citrus. BückDich (4785), McCall, Idaho, USA May 11, 2004 Some moderate carbonation and initial head but absolutely no head retention (could be due to my dishwasher POWERBALLS but I doubt it based on the carbonation in the mouthfeel). The aroma has a light spicyness and citrusy orange peel notes with only a little coriander, a bit of wheat. Very good to style in the aroma. The wheat is a little too musky in the flavor, carbonation too low and the spices aren’t assertive enough for me. The finish is tangy with yeast notes. This is a good witbier, but it’s just missing something that I like in a good one. It also has a bit of tart leatherness after a while that adds to the uniqueness.
