DSG (867), Yuvalim, Israel Apr 9, 2008 Updated: Oct 7, 2008 Bottle (thanks so much for this gem Koelschtrinker!). I was very interested in trying this beer when Roman told me he’ll get it for me, since I’ve had two Berliner Weisse beers before and they both were great, and then when I did the trade with Roman at ZBF this year, Ron Pattinson, who happened to seat at the same table informed me this is not a Berliner Weisse but the last surviving example of the extinct German style called "Lichtenhainer". My antificipation for the encounter with this beer even grew further then. So here I go: Cloudy pale yellow with a medium white head. Complex fruity aroma with wheat, some citrus, notes of apples, yeast and some yogurt-like lactic acid. Incredible sour lactic flavor with some lambic-like citrus, wheat and some fruits. Medium-bodied. I can see the difference between this and a Berliner Weisse but it shares most of the BW characteristics. Anyway, this is one of the most refreshing beers I’ve ever had and I wish I had two cases of this amazing beer to enjoy throughout the steaming Israeli summer.
larsga (2319), Oslo, Norway Oct 8, 2008 Medium white head. Pale yellow hazy body. Sharpish acidic yeasty wooden aroma with herbal notes. Thin, harmonic, clean, and balanced. Sharpish sour lemony yeasty wooden taste with herbal notes. Very thin body, clean palate. Sharp sour yoghurty aftertaste. Really dries out the mouth. Nice, and very unusual. Appearance: Fuzzy yellow with a nice white head.
Aroma: Citric Notes, Wheat, Lambic-like sourness.
Taste: Citric Notes, Bread, Spices, Youghurt-sourness, Fruit. Excellent stuff!
Palate: Sour, dry and very refreshing.
This one impressed me and at only 2.5% it’s a winner. Hell yeah!
Gerne immer wieder! henrikb (1129), Aarhus, Denmark Sep 24, 2008 Beautiful deep pale hazy golden body with a beautiful white head, disappering a little to fast; Huge intense deep nose, lots of deep citrus aromas, super complex with dry hay and ripe fresh tangerine, when shaken something bad happens tons of sulfide are blowing out of the glass, they disappear with time in the glass though; Amazing body lactic but with a very pleasant fill, simply amazing; Huge finish, tons of aromas and the sulfide is not apparent! the acids are there but they are incredibly soft and everything else in the beer balances it perfectly. Amazing beer, I have never tasted anything like it.....if not for the sulfide this beer would have been perfect! kappldav123 (1070), Markkleeberg, Germany Sep 11, 2008 The bottle looks very strange, very old, but not bad. Fruity and sourish aroma. Tastes the same, very sourish, modest salty. Much like a Berliner Weisse. Really good, it has only 2,5 % ABV. Really great stuff!
