caramel colored with a quickly fading white head, smells of sweet malts, some small yeast notes. tastes of the same, sweet malty flavor, they might have wanted to make this a scotch ale, but i think they came away with more of a brown/amber ale. maybe they should have used those spices!

Appearance: Pours a clear amber brown with a pin stripe of white at the top. Aroma: Faint sweet malts. Taste: Some dry and caramel like European malts, some slightly burnt toast, modest bitter hopping. Finishes with a little bit of a twang. Mouthfeel: Full bodied and highly carbonated. Overall: This is a sturdy ale. I haven’t had any other Wachusett beers, so I don’t know where this ranks in their lineup. The beer is good, and a tad warming.

KyotoLefty (6565) - Kyoto, JAPAN - SEP 14, 2009
Bottle. Medium amber-brown with a good, fine head. Amber malt and yeast aroma, slightly earthy, a bit of caramel and raisins. Very well roasted amber malt. A touch sweet, but primarily dry. A touch of chocolate, with grass and earth, dried fruit. Dry, roasted finish with some hops. Very nice and well-balanced. Not really special, though, and not especially winter-ish.

12oz bottle. This is from a local brewery to me so I have tried most of their offerings. As with their other beers there is nothing special here. Just OK.

12oz bottle-pours a foamy tan head that reduces to a lasting cover and copper color. Aroma is roasty, medium malt-toffee, home brewish/earthy first smell +, then ?. Taste is slightly sweet roasty/peat medium malt-toffee/cocoa, some herbal/metallic/aspirin hops. Thanks to Joe-jwc215 for picking this out.

Deep amber beer with a light caramelly aroma. Soft munich malt, light toast and a soft vineous character. Sweet and toffeeish with a rich caramelly character. Softly sweet and earthy with a bit of light toastiness. A little bit of light fruity sweetness. A bit of cherry fruitiness. It’s quite nice really.

Thanks to JoeMcPhee for sharing - slightly hazy amber beer - smells semi-tart, with undercurrents of wintery spices and cherries - the taste is much the same - a little tart up front, followed by a moderately sticky caramel sweetness - a little bit of gingerbread flavor - finishes a little grainy on the tail end - decent, but I question the style designation.
