COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Cask; Regular.
Ingredients: Pale malt, Crystal malt and cane sugar; Fuggles hops (85% of total) in the copper and Goldings hops (15%) on the hop back plates.
Wadworth have been brewing 6X in their Devizes brewery for over 80 years. This delightful copper-coloured beer has a malty, fruity nose with a restrained hop character. The same characteristics emerge on the palate but with more intensity, leading to a lingering malty finish. The beer is full bodied and distinctive but with a high drinkability, ensuring its position as one of the South of England's most requested beers.

Cask at the Ship, Alveston. Sulphurous nose more like Pedigree than the 6X I remember. Sulphur and sweetish malt body, drying finish.

One of those good old classic English bitters, from a brewery which still works with copper brewing kettles and wooden barrels, at least at the time when I tasted this (2006). Brownish copper-coloured ale with thin, creamy head as expected from an English cask bitter, very malty aroma of caramel and walnuts, sourish touch, delicate aromatic hops. Rounded, supple palate, vague sweetishness, lots of buttermilk-like diacetyl, sourish accent, dried fruits, ending in a thirst-quenching hop bitterness. Stereotypical alright, but at least very decent.

I used to live in the South West, and Iíve had more bad pints of this beer than youíve had hot dinners mate. Last time I had this was Newcastle, 2011. But now Iím rating it in perfect condition. Cask at the Boot, St Albans. Light brown with a wispy head of natural carbonation. Aroma is sulphurous, nutty, and biscuity sweet. Taste brings out the astringency and the sweetness simultaneously. Sulphurous bitter finish. Not great, not even good, but certainly not bad. Seek it out in a place that knows how to keep it.
