Bottle from B&M Stockton. Ruby colour with virtually no head. Flavours of caramel and a touch of pear drop. Nice enough, but Iíd expect more from this type of beer.

3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
Clear deep cherry amber with a really rich 1" head and swirls of lace. The taste was unexpected, given the responses by previous raters - solid malt with caramel and dark fruit showing by the time it gets to the palate. Mild bittering brings things to a close, though the bitter doesnít balance well. This tastes like a bigger ale than it is. I wouldnít use it in a session, but it is good for a cool autumn evening.

3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Bottled (from BOE). Deep ambery brown colour with a mediumsized off-white head. Aroma is floral, some sweet berries and mild nutty and caramelly notes to it. Flavour is quite big on the malts, mild to the bitterness, but some floral notes are there. Some wooden notes as well. Basic, but quite refreshing.

3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
From WLVL. Unfortunate to see a rather low rating on this one. I quite enjoyed it. Biscuity malty flavor. Minimal hops. A Minerally taste in a good way. Smooth. Serving: Bottle

Bottle via Phil, May 2013 bottle share. Pours a medium brown, very little tan head. Aroma somewhat lacking, slight nuttiness, slight bread. Body slight/medium, finish really opens up, caramel, sweetness. Slight bitterness, really nice.

3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
Pours a warm ruby-amber color. Clear. Thereís some sediment at the bottom of the bottle, but with my elite pouring skill, I managed to keep it out of the glass. Small rocky head. Looks like they went with a cask mouthfeel attempt. Nice lacing. Only a thin coating of bubbles remains after a minute. The aroma has solid malt sweetness. Thereís a toasty tone to it. Doughy. Lots of English yeast fruitiness to the point that it gets a touch medicinal. Apricots, raisins, grapes, pears. The taste starts out sweet with more of that rich, lightly toasted malt flavor. Finish has light mineral dryness and earthy hop bite. Itís definitely on the sweet side but still maintains much of that English ale balance that makes their beers so easy to quaff. Lots of flavor for the strength. Itís a bit over the top, but I can certainly see the appeal as a seasonal beer. The sweetness in the finish has a mildly off flavor that I canít quite place - itís sort of a medicinal fruitiness. Nothing terrible, just a mild ding for me. Mouthfeel is smooth and low carbonation. Nice take on the cask mouthfeel for a bottled beer. This isnít my favorite English beer on the shelf, but itís good and I always appreciate getting to try a new one, since so few make it into bottles much less to the US.

3.3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
Lovely mahogany colour with a dash of cloudiness and orangy hues. Head is big but deflates relatively quickly. Some light delicate lacing.
Tastewise there are very dark fruits, a vinous and dominant yeast quality with perhaps a fluttering of hazelnut.
Dry at the end with a zestiness and sharpness.
Old school beer.
