| A Bitter formerly brewed by Wadworth Devizes, England
| |
SilkTork (3793), Rochester, Kent, England Apr 30, 2008 275ml bottle from Shropshire. Vintage 1990. I’m surprised at those bottles I’m turning up which contain yeast sediment and in which the beer has a natural carbonation. I would never have thought that a light ale, the lowest of the lowest in any brewery’s range - the stuff that’s a simple last wash through of the grains and would never be a brew by itself - would be bottled live. Light Ales are often poorly labelled (this one has the label at an angle) or are in very battered old bottles. Perhaps the beer was regarded so low that it wasn’t even felt worth filtering and pasteurising? Hmmm. Anyway - this is a nice, light fruit juice beer. Some elegant flowery tea notes. Quite a malty mouthfeel - a little firmer than one would expect at 3%. Carbonation is soft and refreshing. One of the most enjoyable light ales I’ve experienced.
