3.7 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
Almost black with a tan head. A touch of blackberry fruit at first before coffee and chocolate flavours come in. I wasn’t sure about the idea of a blackberry stout, but this is pretty good stuff. Just a touch too watery.

Bottle. Black with a small head. Quite malty with traces of chocolate and coffeee. More body than you would expect for its strength. Quite pleasant.

3.1 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
Tasted this at the Troon Beer Festival in October 2013. Cask, gravity dispense. Dull mahogany black in colour with a thin buff head. Hint of overipe bramble fruit in the sweet malty aroma. Thin oily mouthfeel and poor lacing. Dark malt gives a moist maltloaf base with notes of bramble, weak coffee and liquorice. Earthy, musty hop resins are evident in the brief aftertaste but lack the dusty floral tang of some stouts. Finish is malty with dry liquorice and tart blackcurrant notes in the mouth. An ok session stout with a sweet edge.

Cask by gravity at Troon Beer Festival - very dark brown near black, very thin bubbly head, strong coffee flavour with berry fruits, no lacing, coffee, fruity flavour, not my preferred combination, dry, bittersweet finish
