2.7 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 11/20 frylock (1127) - Atlanta, Georgia, USA - AUG 29, 2003
Wow, this has a huge head! Takes forever to even be drinkable. Way too carbonated. Has a weird fruity flavor, blueberry as oakes said. Some roastiness as well. One of the lesser stouts I have tried. However I would like to try it again if they fix the carbo. problem.

very disappointing. The head was very big the smell was of burnt coffee. It drank like a day old bitter coffee tasting just the same.

Firstly, this beer pissed me off cause I couldnt get into it. Pours a ludicrous 75% tan head and dark dark brown body--from previous ratings, this apparently is not an abberation. Nor is the fact that this beer has a very metallic nose without any other organic odors. On tasting, this tastes like metallic heavy water with a touch of stout flavor. Dont waste your money on this beer, go out and buy Natural Ice instead.

I'm glad a bunch of others mentioned a huge head on this beer. I opened it, after having it still for a good couple of hours and i poured two glasses of nothing but head. After a good 10 minutes, there was maybe 100 mL of liquid to drink. The head was dark brown, and the colour of the beer was dark brown, almost black. Completely opaque. The smell was very sweet, I don't know if this is just the head or if the beer smells like this also. Malty taste with definate chocolate and coffee notes. Not too bad of a beer from the taste and palate, HOWEVER when you can only enjoy 100 mL of a beer and have to worry about cleaning up two glasses and having to wait about 15 minutes for the head to die down from both glasses, it is a big turn-off. Maybe something happened to this one, but this will most likely be the last beer I have from Wagner Valley. Spend your money on more worthy breweries. I bought this 12 ounce bottle from Beers of the World...that might be the problem right there!!!! ;-)
2.3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 8/20 Hopistotle420 (1178) - Amherst, Massachusetts, USA - MAR 30, 2003
Giant rocky light tan, super sticky head...Light vinous nose, fruity and sweet. Deep black colour. Mildly sweet at first, medium bodied, kinda thin tho...Finishes slightly bitter, yet im not terribly impressed at all by this stout. Bland, blah blah
2.6 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 10/20 apoptosis (1317) - Denver, Colorado, USA - JAN 25, 2003
The flavor is thin and smokey. It is definetly not robust, and I only get a slight essence of oatmeal and a touch of malts. Very dark body, and a tiny tan head. It looks much darker and flavorful than it is. Smells like coffee.
3.2 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20 notalush (4174) - Denver, Colorado, USA - JAN 25, 2003
This has a decent appearance with an aroma of roasted oats. Not a lot going on in the flavor. Some roasty, coffee-like notes and a mild, oatmeal sweetness. This has a thin and watery finish. Not a bad stout, but not a memorable one either.
2.9 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 11/20 estoppel (1028) - Buffalo, New York, USA - JAN 23, 2003
Ridiculously huge tan head (filled the glass with little liquid below), very dark brown (opaque), like the WV ESB I poured out before it, takes forever to pour. Mild roasty nose with a hint of sweet fruit. Thick mouthfeel, slightly metallic, bland for the style.
3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20 VENOM (941) - Connecticut, USA - NOV 17, 2002
Opaque dark brown. Thick, frothy dark tan head. Whooshing carbonation. Solid burnt malt aroma and oats and barley with caramel hints intertwined. A little watery initially but deep with black malt flavor and smooth burnt chocolate and oats. Extended burnt malt yet soothing aftertaste. Medium light body. Finishes thicker with a hint of currant fruitiness and bittersweet chocolate, cola syrup. Another brew that got better as it went along.
3.6 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20 mribm (440) - Hurley, New York, USA - OCT 29, 2002
UPDATED: MAY 31, 2003 This beer poured with a large tan head and resembled used motor oil. The nose was of coffee and chocolate. This was a mild stout which was good, because some stouts are just too overbearing at times. This stout had a nice coffee flavor.
