Seemed true to style. Big malt balanced by noble hops. Didn’t expect much from a brewery in a winery, but the beers were exceptional.

(draft @ Wagner Valley Brewing Company - Lodi, NY) Orange pour with a thin white head. Light malty aroma with some mild hop bitterness. Nothing out of the ordinary. Flavor is exactly the same. Some light malts with a bit of hop bitterness. Kind of ordinary.

3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
Bottle. Pours a clear ruby amber with a thin beige head. A touch of paper and old malt, hints of prune. A bit papery, old plum and prune, touches of malt. Medium bodied, toasty, warm malt. The paper notes kill it though. I’d imagine this was decently crisp and tasty a few months back. Alas.

UPDATED: SEP 1, 2012 Bottle. I drank this with a meal (grilled pork chops) and thought it was spot on A nice hefty Vienna-style lager. Some malty sweetness, not much hop flavor. Possibly my favorite from this brewery/winery.

I don’t remember much about this one - other than that it was pretty sweet for my taste. Had on tap at the brewery/vineyard. Most of their beer was pretty forgettable.

2.8 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
Bottle- Pours a dark amber color with a small tan head that fades quickly and no lacing. Mostly a grain aroma with a hint of sweet malt. A mild sweet malt & caramel taste. A very light bitterness with a mild sticky sweetness for an aftertaste. Fairly light body, quite smooth. Decent drinker, but a tad sweet to have more than 1-2. A nice unoffensive brew. Got as a 6-pack mixer.

On draft at the brewery. Award winning for a reason. A very flavorful amber with toastiness and sweet malts. Not bad at all.

3.7 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 17/20
Bottle. Pours a dark brown with some almost maroon highlights. Medium beige head that lingers for a bit. Nose of burnt malts and caramel. Flavor is highly malty and darkly sweet. Notes of brown sugar, caramel and hazlenuts. Some bitterness and hop kick. Nice, roasted malt aftertaste with some sticky sweetness. Pretty solid.
