COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Bright sunrise orange in color, this American IPA is boldly hopped with East Kent Goldings, Cascade and locally grown hop varieties to give an intense yet powerfully smooth bitterness. The subtle caramel maltiness only accents the citrus hop highlights. Dry hopped with an incredible 2-1/2 pounds per barrel, this American style IPA is handcrafted to be extraordinarily refreshing.

Pours golden with a slight reddish tint and a large off-white head. Hoppy aroma. Strong pine and citrus, with a little hay. Flavor dissapoints, doesn’t match aroma. Muted bitter, dry hops. Citrus and pine, with a hint of hay. Dry, mildly bitter finish. Medium body. Not well balanced or complex.

I reached into my Wagner Valley box to pull out a Sled Dog Doppelbock and this came out. I had forgotten I had one of these sitting around. I had to try it then and forgo the anticipated Doppelbock for another time. This had the expected hoppy aroma and flavor. I’m glad it did not have a big hoppy bite with it like some IPA’s do.

sample at the brewery - looked better than it tasted. Nice nose, out of balance on the palate.

Poured with no head, which made me kind of disappointed. No lacing. But the taste wasn’t too bad. Very perfumy nose, a light character and a nice hoppy bite. Maybe my bottle was a little aged and maybe some batches are inconsistent as most ratings show a frothy off-white head.

UPDATED: JUN 4, 2007 piney fresh aroma, taste not as appealing...A little too smooth for me...Could use more bite. re-rate, 06/04/2007- draft- beer is way too carmel malty for me. Remains unbalanced in the wrong direction for an ipa.

UPDATED: MAY 24, 2008 Amber body, off-white head, resinous nose with some sweetness. Moderately sweet body with substantial citric hoppiness. Nicely balanced. RERATE 1/07: Some diacetyl in the nose, a little metallic in nose and start, some sweet fruitiness.

Clear dark amber, small head, minimal lacing. Nose of pine, bitter hops, amber malts. Taste of pine, orange, bitter hops, amber malts, only moderate caramel or toffee notes. Dry mouth, Long, long bitter finish. Actually quite enjoyable.

There seems to be a very grapefruit-like tone and the bitterness seems well balanced by the malts with more of the bitterness lying in the finish. It seems pretty organic and refreshing but not striking. Its a nice beer to drink and it has an orange-copper color which makes it seem appealing. Nothing earth shattering but pleasant at the same time.
