Sled Dog is a very malty, full-bodied lager brewed with lots of Munich, dark caramel and chocolate malts, and Northern Brewer and Tettnang hops. The flavors start out with caramel and chocolate and finish with just a touch of hops. Available September-April

Pours very dark but with little or no head. Quite sweet tasting but not overpoweringly so. I've had both good and bad beers from this brewery but this was one of my favorites. Don't know if it's a seasonal or a regular beer but it's definitely a solid addition to the Wagner valley product line.

Sampled from a 12 oz brown bottle this beer poured a red-caramel color with a large creamy orange-tan head that left decent lacing. The aroma was sweet with molasses, malty syrup and toffee. The flavor was sweet molasses, malt syrup, dark fruits and toffee. Medium length finish. Moderately full bodied and smooth. Solid.

Roasted Caramelized malt aroma and flavor. Almost a bit of chocolate in the malt. Very malty, almost slightly sweet and bordering on a sticky palate. Little spice to the flavor, but really malt dominant but flavorful. Maybe just a bit too malty but still a good beer. Would try more from this brewery. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Found some old rating notes from TapNY 2013 that somehow never got entered. (Iím keeping this a little shorter than my normal rating style to help catch-up my backlog a little faster.)
An amber colored beer with a strong malty flavor, toffee, toast, and some dark fruit. Solid stuff.

Pours a brown caramel color with a sweet aroma. The caramel is distinct in the taste, almost too powerful. It overpowers the malt and chocolate from this beer. This beer is good as a dessert beer due to its sweetness. I couldnít drink this everyday but it has some complex flavors.

Pours dark amber with ok head and lacing. A little coffee on nose with some of that characteristic doppelbock aroma of sweetened, toffee-like malt. Palate is pretty light here though, and aftertaste only leave a little bitterness and sweetness. Needs more of almost everything. Bottle.

Presentation: It was poured from a brown 12oz bottle into a mug. The label has no freshness date or abv%. Appearance: Looking into the glass I am presented with a deep garnet red brew with good clarity and a tall off white to light tan head. This head slowly fades out leaving some spotty lacing at the top of the glass. Smell: There is a big rich malty character coming out of the glass. In it I get candy sweet notes like a grape sucker or grape soda. This is backed up with a big bready sweet maltiness Taste/Palate: The big malty sweetness from the aroma hits the tongue with candy like grape notes inside of a somewhat modest medium to full bodied bready sweetness. In the back ground there are some very subdued hop notes that offer a touch of herbal leafy spice with almost no bitterness. The palate is very smooth and lightly carbonated. Its sweetness sticks on the palate a bit but not in a heavy or to cloying a way. Notes: Itís not the most complex Doppelbock but there is something about its basic character that I like and find enjoyable to drink.

This beer is flavorful enough, although the nose is weak. Itís very malty with bitter edges. The body is actually rather full with lively carbonation.
