Bottle. Bronze and bitter but lacking in anything distinctive. Quite pleasantly bitter but still rather mundane.

Bottle at Chris_o’s The Wolf tasting. I’ve been looking for Wagtail beers for some time now so I was intrigued to see how they are. Amber colour with lasting beige head. Flemish white pig aroma (as Urbain would say), rather a nice English beer. Not bad. Pretty good hop. Nice enough.

A Mes rate: Bottle at Chris_O’s Ha Ha Ha Ha Gimme the Cheese Tasting.
I generally like Wagtail beers and this is no exception. Awesome orange amber colour with a good white head and excellent condition. Lovely creamy nose ("Your nose like a delicious slope of cream - Howard Moon) with some really good hoppage. Rich malty flavour with lip smacking bitter hops, a bit of lemon and a pleasing light sourness. Nice and clean and dry. Bags of character and all round quality.

Bottle @ Chris_o.
Pours light hazy amber. A bubbly off white head on top. Aroma is light strawberries and caramel maltiness. Slight grassy hops. Fine mouthfeel. Quite dry with a good dose of hops and good caramel behind that.

Bottle, Dodgy Deli on Cowley Road, Oxford. Warm copper pour, layer of just off-white head. Initially kind of a dull corn flower aroma, though that parts to reveal a nice ruby caramel. Fine textured soft carbonation, gentle plum sweetness and sort of a garden bitterness. Maybe a little less impressive than some of the rest of the Wagtail bottles, but still a nice beer overall. Wagtail seems to have done far better than average at capturing the delicate quality of cask serving in a bottle.

BCA Bottle from the Dodgi’ Deli’ Cowley Road, Oxford. Had this 23-03-08 Lovely colour, deep rich amber great clarity and a nice off-white head. Tasty, fruity and with far more flavour than a 4.5% beer should have. Nice steady bitterness and good full bodied beer, drying towards the end. Lovely beer.
