COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
More body, color, and hop character than our Wai’ale’ale Ale, this unfiltered American style Pale Ale is an easy drinking beer, perfect for the warm climate of Hawaii. This beer is darker than Wai’ale’ Ale, and the stay has a small bitter zing to it.

Na Pali was created to reflect the rugged cliffs of the Na Pali Coastline. This is a nani (beautiful) place to see.

Alcohol: 5.4% by Volume Hops (Bittering Units): 26 IBU Original Gravity: 12.3 Plato

Tap at brewpub. Pours copper with white head. Aroma is resiny piney hops. Just great stuff right there. Some dankness there as well. Taste is bursting with piney hop flavor. Man, this hits the spot on a warm humid day. Finishes nice and bitter. Too bad the IPA wasn’t available when we were here.

Very fruity, with snappy hops. Solid, quenching bitterness. Dryish finish. Mild malt sweetness. Flowery and slightly perfumey. Boldly hopped.

Another mind-blowing good offering from Kauia, though not quite equal with the IPA. Salmon-amber in appearance with a decent head. A fruity hop nose mixed with some wild, tendrilled spiciness and a backdrop of light crystal malts entices to the first taste. The flavor is decidedly hoppy with floral, fruity, spicy complexities fulfilling a nice piece of the hop spectrum. Darn tasty!

OK, I know what you’re thinking after reading my other ratings of this place so far: 3.9? What is UP, Puzzl?!

Let me tell you, right here are right now: this guy makes some awesome hoppy beers. This and the IPA were both absolutely top notch, beyond all odds. How can that be? Who knows. Both totally fresh, super juicy hops, everything you could ever ask for in a pale. Lots of pine and citrus, with none of that crappy "malt" stuff to back it up, just like God ordered it. Perhaps it was just the dementia I was experiencing after the first three beers, but this was awesome.

Draft @ brew pub. Light amber color. Light hop aroma. Light bodied, fairly flavorless despite an adequate hop bitterness. Not very good.

Draft at the brewery. Rich burnt copper color with an ivory head. Biscuity, sweet malt aroma with some slight hop aromas. Thin bodied and very bitter. Bitter finish.

Tap @ Kirkland Waimea Brewing. Kind of cloudy copper color with thin head. The aroma is very light and I can’t really pick up too much. A bit of hops and some acidity maybe. The flavor has a combination of some malty sweetness, grainy maltiness and some hop bitterness. I wasn’t too impressed with the house beers here. There’s nothing wrong but nothing note worthy either.

UPDATED: OCT 26, 2006 Draught at the brewpub. Attractive hazy orange color that glowed in the late afternoon sun. Head was foamy, white, and left some lace. Nice grapefruity hop aroma and flavor balanced by a delicate, but not flimsy, malty backbone. Bitter on the tongue from start to finish. Delicious.

Rich golden colour, light copper highlights. Hazy yeasty appearance, resiny woody hops are obvious in the nose. Flavour shows decent balance, light caramel sweetness underneath the fairly aggressive hopping.

Hazy tan colour. Strong woody hop notes mixing with the sweaty yeast. Moderately bitter with woody, slightly lemony notes. Spritzier than the other Waimea beers. Not stylish - in fact it’s really rough - but not bad.
