Waitrose Vintage Perry is made in rural Herefordshire from specially selected English Perry pears, grown in the region since Norman times. It is fermented and matured in old oak vats, where it develops its special strength and unique flavour

UPDATED: MAY 5, 2014 Appearance: Clear golden/straw/green with bubbly white head on the pour. Aroma: Pear, musty, earthy, floral, note of barnyard, vanilla, woody, buttery and spicy. Taste: Medium acidity and tannin, low/medium sweetness. Palate: Thick smooth texture, medium body, average carbonation, lingering pear, vanilla, caramel/toffee finish. Comments: Delicious. The most assertive Perry I have had to date. 2011 Vintage. 2013 Vintage: Same as above but prickly carbonation, no vanilla, no barnyard in the aroma or finish. More of a pear, buttery caramel aroma and palate with a dry, lingering pear, white wine and caramel like finish. Again a very good Perry.

500ml bottle from Waitrose of all places, looks like a glass of white wine. (Light carbonation). Sweetshop aroma with a tiny hint of oak, and a mainly bubblegum flavour. Robust alcohol kick. I was pleasantly suprised by this.

It poured out resembling Cristal.I drank this from a huge over sized wine goblet. Id not had a drink in 7 dayz. My mind was as jaded as a mofo...I put on some vintage R Kelly tunes and let this pear juice buzz through my organs. I expected more funky shit from this, like some rural ciders, but its a mellow, very enjoyable-sweet and dry offering. Puckering and soothing. This is pretty cool. I feel better already.

Brought across the pond and shared by a friend. Poured a deep clear golden color. Still so no head. Smells of non descript pomme fruit with just a hint of sulfur that was gone before my second sip. Smell is fruity sweet with barely a touch of oak. If the label hadnt said perry Im not sure I wouldnt have mistaken this for a cider. Taste is smooth and sweet. More apple than pear flavor with hints of vanilla and oak. Medium to thin body, Still, with a sweet fruity mouthfeel. This is my first perry, I was kind of expecting something different. I thought this was fairly tasty, although it seemed a bit boring. The oak was barely there and Id heard perry would have a bit of tartness. Malolactic fermentation?

Bottle, 500ml. A pale straw colour, no carbonation. A light pear aroma. Plenty of pear in the flavour with some hints of spice, Id say medium-sweet. Very refreshing and drinkable, with a slight warming quality to it. Personally I like my perry offensively strong, both in flavour and alcohol content, with a good kick of sourness, which this doesnt deliver. But this is an easy-drinking perry intended to appeal to the mass market, which it does well and Id certainly buy it again. Was surprised to see that it was 8% actually, as it doesnt strike me as being that strong.

Pale yellow in colour with slight carbonation. Light, slightly tart pear aroma with a hint of wood. Flavour began with some sweetish pear juice, followed by a hint of spice, oak and dryish finish. Ok.

Nice perry, light yellow coloured and white head, fully diminishing. Fruity aroma, acid and sulfur too. Flavor starts moderate sweet, acid and light astringent. Light syrupy texture and soft carbonation.

500ml bottle from Waitrose. Silver, gold colour with no head, but quite carbonated. Delicate pear aroma. Sweetish pear in mouth, or is that the alcohol? Some woodiness on aroma and end from the oak casks I guess. It is quite sweet. Pear juice flavour is nice but a bit too carbonated and a bit too sweet.

500ml bottle from Waitrose. 2007 vintage. Best before April 2010. Pale straw colour and modestly sparkling (more so than the Westons Vintage, plus the ABV is different, so I don’t think it is the same product). Not the most complex or artisanal Perry but clean and refreshing with a touch of sharp fruit and hints of the wood. Finishes quite sweet. I generally prefer a drier product but this might make quite a decent chilled summer quaffer.
