bartlebier (1884) - Belchum im Breisgau, - DEC 20, 2012
UPDATED: JUN 4, 2014 Not very enjoyable, oversweet, cloying and virtually aromaless, overboosted honeycomb concoction that shames Waldhaus’ otherwise quality output and use of natural hops. Undercarbonated, hops buried under unnecessary 8.5 ABV ethanol and sugary malts. Not ostentively awful, but leaden and unbelievably dull. More sensible and tasty paths were chosen with their 7.0% IPA - their Dunkel is enjoyable as well.

Smooth malts-sweetish. Fresh, not too sticky, intense. Smooth with a not too deep sweetish body. Easy to drink, but I miss the complexity a bit.

330ml bottle, thanks to Beerhunter111. Pours gold, with white head. Actually didn’t mind this, unlike those below. My notes say ’bubblegum lager’ and this had a fair sweetness that complements the malts. It is slightly cloying but I enjoyed it.

Goldenes Bier mit ordentlicher Schaumkrone. Geruch fruchtig, malzig, hopfig. Geschmack sehr malzig, fruchtig, hopfig, leicht alkoholisch.

Flasche 33cl. Goldfarbener Doppelbock mit mäßiger Krone. In Duft und Antrunk unbesonders. Was ist denn hier passiert?

McTapps (4468) - Ruhrcity, North Rhine-Westphalia, GERMANY - FEB 12, 2014
Pours out of the bottle in a deep golden colour with low head and smooth body. Aroma of hops and malt. Taste of flowers, straw, mild apples, grains and cereals. Hints of strong alcohol. Not really special, but okay.

Bottle from Bartlebier, thanks! Blonde. peach and floral notes in the aroma. malty sweet, alcoholic flavor with floral notyes and plums. Almost sugary. Onedimensional doppelbock, that doesn’t impress.

Sparkling golden with only the faintest film of head on top of the beer. Aromas of German malts and that’s about it. To be fair though, that’s all it needs. The typical German malt driven lager flavour is augmented heavily by a big heavy, warm alcohol drive. This enhances the flavour and gives it a finish that you just don’t get in the little brother standard lager style. This beer is perfectly drinkable, but is it perfectly memorable? Not really to be honest.
