3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 17/20
Small brown head with mild lacing. Cherry and chocolate nose. Blacker than night, a searchlight wouldnít shine through this beer. Cherry and malt flavour. Sweet finish. with cherry and strong coffee notes. This is a dessert beer, something to drink after the meal.

2.2 AROMA 3/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 8/20
UPDATED: AUG 23, 2007 Tasted at Horse Brass in Portland. One of the few dissapointments from Walking Man for me. Black with huge head. Strong cherry aroma. Really thin. Tastes like cherry cough syrup. Awful. I pick up nothing from the stout...just cherry syrup everywhere. Iíd like to try this again...maybe it was having an off night there.
Re rate: Iíve tried this several times over the past year or so, and just canít change my opinion. I want to like this beer so much, as cherry and stout sound so damn good together. The thing that ruins it for me is the strong aroma of cherry NyQuil. Affects the taste and ruins the whole thing for me. The cherry is just too fake for me.

4 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 17/20
On tap at Collins Pub, Seattle, WA. Pours a thick black color that is not see through one bit. A slightly tannish, slightly reddish small foamy head sits atop the brew. Sourish black cherries perfume off the brew like youíre smelling black cherry chocolate ice cream or something of the sort. Just a beautiful aroma. A tiny bit of chocolatish malt hangs around with the cherry aroma, but not by much. The flavor is quite smooth and full bodied. The cherries are cut down a bit on the tongue which consists of a frontwards sweet malt mixing with the cherries, which then moves into some chocolate and small hoppyness towards the finish. A tiny bit of coffee hangs around toward the back of the throat. I really enjoyed this one!!

3.8 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 15/20
On tap at Horse Brass in Portland, OR. 10 ounce sample. Lots of sour black cherries present in the aroma. Very perfumey and aromatic. Not much stout detected, though, in the nose. Pleasant, but doesnít smell overly balanced. Almost entirely opaque blackish color with a smallish tan head. Sweet, vinous cherry flavors to start, turning quite roasted, chocolatey with decent bitter hoppiness to finish. A great, well-balanced fruit stout. Do they bottle this stuff?

[Tap - Rose & the Raindrop]
A great flavor dark dark black beer. Cculd not get any more black. Would love to know how much black cherries they use in this brew. The aroma was awesome. The underlying fruit flavor was enought o give it a great flavor. Only issue was it needed a tad more choclate flavor to the brew. Other than that it was good and smooth.

I could drink this all day. Great cherry aroma, like a ludenís cough drop, slightly viscous in consistency and the flavor is sweet and syrupy with some roasted black cherry and coffee, sweetened by chocolate and round out by a rich creaminess in the finish. Tasty!

2.7 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 10/20
Black beer with a thin-dark brown head. Sweet black cherry aroma exlodes out of the glass and completely obliterates everything else. Flavour is quite sweet up front, strong and artificial tasting. Fruit fades a bit toward the finish leaving a milk-chocolate flavour and some light roasty finish. Low bitterness. This might have worked better with about 1/4 of the cherry character. As it stands, itís too sweet and candyish to really enjoy.

I has this at Horse Brass in Portland and drove to the brewery in Stevenson WA to buy some. This awakens you with a cherry smell. One the first sip the cherries and coffee roll around your palate. This beer finishes as wonderful as it starts. This is one of my favorite stouts that I have ever had. Too bad they only have kegs and donít bottle. If in the area, this beer is a must try for dark beer drinkers

3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
(Draft: Horse Brass Pub in Portland, OR) Oh man, when they say black cherry, they really mean it. The nose is massive black cherry, smelling a lot like Marachino cherries, or the inside of chocolate covered cherry candies. I really canít smell anything else to this stout, thatís how strrong and dominating the cherry aroma is. Quite a strong sweet cherry flavor as well, though thereís almost nothing that will beat a dark, bitter, roasty, coffee maltiness into submission, so the cherry is more in balance here, and actually, quite a nice enhancement to the traditional dry stout flavor. Medium-to-full bodied, lightly carbonated on the palate, with a very long-lasting roasty finish. The color is black as pitch, fully opaque, even at the edges. And the sizeable tan head slowly settles to a thick, bubbly ring, leaving some patches of lace on the glass. Though I couldnít drink more than one glass of this beer, itís very interesting, a wonderfully unique and finely crafted beer. Highly recommended.
