This one was great. Having worked in a cherry orchard for five summers, I know the fruit. This one poured with a small head, and had very little coloring to it. It’s cherry without tasting like cough syrup. Smooth malt finish. Nice.

On draught at the Rose & Raindrop. (March 2005). Black color with medium lacing head. The aroma is cherries! They overpower the malt and bitterness but some perfume comes through. The flavor is cherry, some coffee, melon, low bitterness and mild sweetness. It tasted like a dark-chocolate covered cherry. Nice beer.

Black with a thin tan head. Smells like cherries and tastes like cherries. Thin palate with a pleasing aftertaste. Its nice but too much like cherries for my taste.

Tap. Nice black color. Off-white head and good lacing. Nice cherry and roasted malt aroma. Medium bodied. Flavor tended to be more on the stout side of things with chocolate and coffee being dominant with a pleasant cherry intrusion towards the finish. Decent stout with a great fruit balance.

1.3 AROMA 2/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 2/10 PALATE 1/5 OVERALL 4/20
UPDATED: JUL 21, 2007 First tasted at the Rose & Raindrop in spring ’05 and I hated it. So I gave it a re-sample at the brewpub in Stevenson. Basically black. Black cherry soda smell. I sure could go for a Montreal smoked meat sandwich right now. Taste....gak...gong show of very bitter patent malt and sugar sweet robitussin cherry. Fucking awful.

3.3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
On tap at the Horse Brass Pub in Portland. Pours black with a small brown head. Tons of sweet dark cherry aroma, not very tart, just syrupy sweet. This brew was very thin on the palate, almost like a porter. Not very much roast to this, light chocolate flavor with a sweet chery start then a big bitter finish. Good for a fruit beer, but bad for a stout.

3.4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
Aroma: chocolate covered marachino cherries, sugary smell--like the cherry syrup in cough syrup
Appearance: dark brown, tan head, lacing
Flavor: very sweet cherry taste, mixed with chcolate--slight bakers chocolate/dry chocolate finish with sugary sweet cherry flavors--almost too much cherry and not enough chocolate
Palate: smooth, bubbly with dry chocolate cherry aftertaste

3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Sampled @ Horse Brass, July 2004.
Deep black with a brown head. Nose of pure black cherries, not many stout qualities in the aroma. Thin initially, cherries with some harsh chocolate that’s entirely too sweet. By the end of a pint I was sick of it.

4.2 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 16/20
Eclipse black color. Small head. Aroma is black cherries and sweet. Very intense aroma. A medium bodied stout. Malts are roasty with touches of chocolate, Very smooth. The cheery flavors complement the roastyness of the malts very well. Yet it is SO intensely cherry a little of this goes a LONG way. This is going to be one of those “love it or hate it” beers. Mouthfeel is full and round. Finish is clean and smooth. Aftertaste is slightly smooth.

RBSG 2004, on tap: Clear dark brown with a tan head. Fake cherry aroma, with some english hops. Starts sweet and acidic and ends even more so. Syrupy mouthfeel and ends with a long cherry note.
