2.2 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 3/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 7/20
Draft. A pitch black beer with a thin brown head. The aroma is sweet with strong notes of cherries as well as light notes of chocolate. The flavor is sweet with strong notes of cherries and almonds, as well as benzaldehyd and chocolate, reminding me of the chocolate Mon Cheri - not my thing in a beer. The finish is dry with the cherry note still lingering.

1.3 AROMA 2/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 2/10 PALATE 1/5 OVERALL 4/20
UPDATED: JUL 21, 2007 First tasted at the Rose & Raindrop in spring ’05 and I hated it. So I gave it a re-sample at the brewpub in Stevenson. Basically black. Black cherry soda smell. I sure could go for a Montreal smoked meat sandwich right now. Taste....gak...gong show of very bitter patent malt and sugar sweet robitussin cherry. Fucking awful.

On tap at Bottleworks, pours black with a small tan head. Aroma of cherries and roasted malt. Flavour of potent cherries upfront, with the latter half revealing flavours of roasted malt, a considerable smokiness and wood. Interesting creation here.

2.7 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 10/20
Black beer with a thin-dark brown head. Sweet black cherry aroma exlodes out of the glass and completely obliterates everything else. Flavour is quite sweet up front, strong and artificial tasting. Fruit fades a bit toward the finish leaving a milk-chocolate flavour and some light roasty finish. Low bitterness. This might have worked better with about 1/4 of the cherry character. As it stands, it’s too sweet and candyish to really enjoy.

3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Sampled @ Horse Brass, July 2004.
Deep black with a brown head. Nose of pure black cherries, not many stout qualities in the aroma. Thin initially, cherries with some harsh chocolate that’s entirely too sweet. By the end of a pint I was sick of it.
