(Draught) Pours a hazy amber-brown body with a medium off-white head. Aroma of citrus, herbs, cherry, and caramel. Flavor of light lactic sourness and sweet citrus with a dry oak finish.

GABF 2007: Poured a slightly hazey chestnut color with an off-white head. The aroma had a nice sour nose. Caramel malt with mild lactic vinegar. The flavor was nice and smooth with a tart start. The beer finishes with a sweet malt. Light to medium body.

GABF ’07. Pours hazy amber with an average, frothy, off-white head, lasting with good lacing. Aroma is average malt (hay, straw, meal), average hops (citrus), average yeast (earth) with notes of cherries and raspberries. Light bodied, sticky texture, lively carbonation, and a bitter finish. Average duration, light sweetness, moderate acidity and bitterness.

I finally found this one at Belmont Station, intrigued by the funky kombucha creature and what it might do to a beer. The flavor is a strange mix of sweet beer with an ice tea, herbal funk mix. It didn’t turn out all that sour, more mild sourness with an interesting sweetness added, very unlike any beer I’d had, more a ice tea like earthy herbal sweetness on top of the brown ale body. Interesting and possibly nice on a hot day, but I wish it had more sourness.

Draft at Brouwer’s Cafe Sourfest. Opaque dark brown with thinnish tan rim and light lace. Pungent sweet and sour nose that somehow seems to come and go. Rich, creamy body on the high side of medium. Nutty, sugary, cinnamony, red-apple-y mid-palate. Long clinging apple finish. Really beautiful once it warms up a bit.

Dark reddish brown thin head. Sour vinagrette aroma. Maybe a little sour vegetal. Tastes like sour mushroom tea, kombucha. Some sweetness is fruity with a tart finish. Too vegetal for me, but very interesting. Points for creativity.

Poured on tap at Belmont Station in Portland, OR--Deep gnarley brown hazy body with a minimal whitish head. Sweet, mildly (for a sour) sour nose. This beer had the obvious sparkling kombucha characteristics, but the brown sugar mixture didn’t work in my opinion (as a kombucha lover). Up the nose spiciness, but lacking a true funky sparkling freshness. Ok. Not really bad, just weird, but not OMG weird like I was hoping for.

draft @ brouwer’s sour fest - intrigued by this heading in and it certainly wasn’t a let down on in interesting factor; murky, dark brown with thin tan head to the edges; aromas are sour and earthy; grainy and a little dirty and fun funky; obvious mushroom aromas come off after it warms up a bit; flavors are a mildly sour mix of dried fruit, wood and some slight funk; honestly, reminded me of food and of childhood memories of the crab cakes at wells breach, maine; some chewy, chocolate flavors come out in the finish as i drank this over several hours; strange and fascinating and unlike anything i’ve had before
