4.3 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 17/20
On Tap at the Brewpub. Pitch black and viscous. Modest tan head and coarse sheeting lacing. Dark roasted malts in the aroma along with sweet pitted fruit and purple grapes. Thick oily palate and modest carvonation propels the malty sweetness over the toungue. Sweet daek roast flavors with remaekably little balancing bitterness. This its only drawback, minor as it may be. Finish is quick and soft. Only a slight bitter trailer.
Glad to have finally had this one. Lives up to the hype.

4.2 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20
Sampled at RBSG 2006- Grand Tasting. From the growler. Pours coal black with a dark beige head. Chalky, in fact, almost dessicating. It is sweet and roasted like drinking burned rice krispies. Delicious and filling.

4.7 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 19/20
One of the best beers I came across at the 2005 GABF ... kept going back for more. Intensely flavored and tremendously complex. Notes of sugared raisins, dark roasted malts, prunes, dried apricots, dark chocolate, fresh-brewed coffee, syrupy caramel and vanilla, to name a few. Dark fruits reached a new level in this beer. Mouthfeel was absolutely stellar -- silky, rich and chewy. Perfect amount of noticeable alcohol in the background (high ABV hidden well). Based on the sweetness, the bitterness level couldn’t have been better. Incredible beer!

3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Sampled at the RBSG ’06.
Black with a tan head.
Complex sweet aroma with loads of roasted malts balancing out the caramel.
Solid hop bitterness in the flavor that finishes with a dry palate. Alcohol that is well hidden.

4.1 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 16/20
GABF 2006. The beer has a CRAZY mousse looking head that could be eaten with a spoon. Black body. The aroma is sweet chocolate silk pie and graham crackers. Mocha. The flavor is rich chocolate silk pie. Creamy. Sorta one-dimensional. Rich and extremely full mouthfeel. Too one-dimensional, but still was quite good.

4.1 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Growler from Indiana_Red: Pours a dark brown, near black with a large tanned head. Aroma of roasted malt, coffee, cocoa, and hints of the high ABV. Tastes off dark fruits, toasted malt, coffee, and light bittersweet cocoa. Nice lingering and warming finish.

Big thanks to Christian for hooking me up with a flip top of this gem from the PNW. All kinds of flavors running around in here: burnt molasses, black liquorish, sweet smoke, dark roasted malts. WOW. Really impressive. Gotta make it out to WA and try this bad boy on tap....

4/12/10 by way of dakine.
thick pour. brownish black with a small tannish head.
alcohol is up front and burns the snout quite a bit... past that are notes of chocolate, roast, vanilla, molasses, prunes, wood and lots of florals from the booze.
the flavor is the same... oddly dull though the body is full and slick. 6/4/6/4/14/3.4
