4oz sample at brewery - Aroma has tons of caramel and hops. Flavor is very hop forward, resinous pine with a big caramel malt finish. Palate is creamy and smooth which hides the 12.3% very well. Super good and best beer of the day.

On tap at Walking Man. 09 vintage. color was a rich amber. Aroma was fruity with caramel and flowers. Flavor was a bit more earthy. Fruity and caramel, with earthy/woody hops. Solid, but a bit too much hops for my liking in a barleywine.

Growler split with jimbowood. Pours amber with thin white head. Aroma of piney hops. Taste is green with hops. Very fresh. Way too easy drinking at 12%. Creamy mouthfeel.

[Vintage 2008] Tap @ Barleywine and Big Beer Fest... Poured a hazy amber/red with a tiny white head. Aroma was bread-like with a tart yeast character finish. Stood out quite nicely from other barleywines from the festival. A lot of licorice flavors and not bitter at all for a 12% brew; insanely drinkable. Fruity -- jello like -- sweet notes which meshed with the earthy grains in the finish.

Tasted off the secondary @ the pub. This was one really nice and really hoppy bw. Very dangerous and very good.

(Draught, 2007 vintage) Pours a lightly hazy amber body with a small beige head. Aroma of caramel, cherry, toffee, apricot, and orange. Flavor of caramel, cherry skins, candi sugar, and mild hops (floral, grass) with a dry finish.

Hard Liver 08. Dark orange brew with nice lacing and lasting head. Aromas of caramel, toffee, citrus, and some buttery malts. Initial sweet grainy malts, caramel, toffee, candi sugar, vanilla, and a little plasticy to me too. Hops come through as earthy and floral. Creamy smooth body with a ton of booze.

Red-brown beer under a yellow head. Wood, US hops, but restrained, cashews, orange- or mandarinepeel. Wry, sweet-bitter in an excellent balance. Slick, viscuous, chewy, wry-woody in the mouth. Excellent beer sustaining the fame of its brewers.

snifters @ both beverage place barleywine bacchanal and hard liver - 2006 and 2007 vintages; both dark copper with slight haze; aromas of dates, figs and malts; no burn and very flat aftertaste that was more pronounced in the 2006; creamy texture and chewy finish; 2007 has more hops and 2006 is more subtle, but both pack a great punch
