DA (2191), Portland, Oregon City, Oregon, USA Jan 23, 2007 On tap at the Horsebrass. Pours light golden with a small white head. Very floral hop aroma, citrus and spice. Light honey sweetness upfront with a fruity hop finish, light spicy hop crisp ending. Smooth throughout and clean finish. Sham (1846), Seattle, Washington, USA Sep 5, 2006 Amber with lively carbonation, great lacing and a foamy head. Fruit and bitter hops in the nose. Some notes of citrus and grassiness. Wet grass, really. Toasted malts. Flavor really shows the Saaz hops. A little buttery, not much though. Sweet and toasted malts. Lots of bitter berry notes with a great deal of citrus. Very slick palate, almost oily. Sweet and a sticky or coating. Bitter and citrusy finish with a nice balance of malts. Oakes (6556), Miami Beach, Canada Sep 3, 2006 Hazy golden colour. Saaz, heavy bread pale malts, light alcohol, big grassiness in the aroma. Moderate bitterness. Light bready pale malts and heavy Saaz hops in the palate. Again light alcohol in their to dry things out. The attenuation is quite good on this beer, and that I think is necessary in the style to keep it from being an unbalanced cloying mess. So nicely done there, this is really well-balanced. Not the sort of beer I normally like but this is good stuff. Pours a neartly clear, slightly oily yellow with a moderate head and great lacing. We’ve got a strong and enjoyable Saaz aroma, but the beer really shines in the flavor; this is just a brilliant bitter hoppiness very different from all of the citrus and resin one gets with the west coast c-hops. Cracker malts provide a bit of a backbone, but this is really all of lovely, pure, grapefruit-pithy hops.
Delicious. I’d love to try this one again. glkaiser (854), Seattle, Washington, USA Aug 24, 2006 Had on tap at Uber. They had this labled as an "Imperial Pils, only keg in WA!". But, this has to be an Imperial IPA....nothing pilsner like about this beer. The bartender mentioned that this beer was the result of a "class" that was taught....not sure on the details. This beer had an incredible skunky hop aroma and taste. This is one for the potheads, I mean hopheads. Amazing aroma and taste...a pure hop heaven brew. A nice bite, but not alcoholic at all. I love it. Pretty thin...
