On draft @ the brewpub. Solid dark brown in color. Taste is roasted chocolate malts, well balanced with piney hops and bitter finish. Pretty good.

3.2 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
Bottled. Poured deep brown with a short-lived beige head. The aroma picked up toasted black and lesser cocoa malts topped by fresh, mostly pine resiny hoppage.. good balance between the roast and the hops. The flavor found near-burnt black malts and a kiss of licorice at the core.. bitter pine and some malty tardiness around.. finished with bitter roast and pine. Medium-bodied at most on the palate.. quite bitter overall.. engaging on the palate.

A hoppy black ipa, definitely some spice, herbal, and pine notes to go with dark and roasty malts. 10+ ibus.

3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
Sample at DLD. Pours a dark brown color with a small beige head. The aroma has a decent blend of roasted malts and green hops. The flavor matches the nose; roasted malts, green hops that favor citrus and resin. good mouth feel.

3.9 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Rich and dark color. Aroma of roasted malt with significant hops. Mouthfeel is not too thick and the taste does not disappoint. At 100 IBU and 8.5% this is a big beer worth your time

4.3 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
On tap at Walldorff. I love this beer. Lots of hop aroma, plenty of roasted malt, nice dark appearance, and an alcohol kick that screams "I am more than just a mug of fizzy water". This, to me, is a way above average Black IPA - and it pairs up nicely with their Jackís Inferno pizza.

On draft atthe pub. Not bad. Pours black with a decent head. Slight hop aroma and flavor. Their only half-way decent beer.

12 oz bottle
A generous bonus in a recent trade this piqued my curiosity based on the label alone. An unknown small brewery from a state known for its beer could be good or a disaster. This one falls somewhere in between. A basically average black IPA itís the type of thing that is pleasant to discover from time to time. Not everything has to be from one of the big names in the industry.
Aroma / Appearance - The fluid inky black body was delicate and mobile. A bubbly head rose to the top though it was hard to see if there was any carbonation given the darkness of the beer. Chocolate chip raisin bread, wood shavings, and flat cola escape with ease. There is some cohesiveness but the beer is not good enough to stand alone.
Flavor / Palate - Coffee cake, warm resiny hops, and a slippery malt base are interesting for the first ten minutes. The last few sips get to be boring. Thereís enough character to make it a solid discovery but not enough to make me want to seek out more of Walldorfís releases. Assuming it is somewhat fresh Iíd recommend this to those traveling through Michigan. I would not however likely trade for this again.

3.5 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20
Had on draft at the brewpub. I enjoyed the citrusy hop profile, but the alcohol bite was a little strong..... couldíve been balanced a little better. Overall, an interesting concept and a drinkable beer.

Bottle. Poured into a tulip glass a dark cola like brown/black color with a fluffy, coastered tan head. Mixed aroma of dark roast, slight licorice, with some hop characteristics poking through. This beer is odd in that as an IPA the hops arenít extremely strong in the nose. Medium mouthfeel. Hmm, interesting flavor, as opposed to the nose the hops are for sure there and in true form. Nice start with some roasted cofffee flavors mixed with some sweetness and then balanced out with some hoppy pine/citrus flavors. Bitterness lingers on. For 8.3% the alcohol doesnít really show that much.
