Bottled. A dark brown beer with a thin brown head. The aroma has notes of caramel, malt, and nuts, as well as a lighter note of roasted malt. The flavor is sweet with strong notes of caramel, combined with medium notes of sweet malt, and lighter notes of roasted malt, and metal.

(Bottle 33 cl) Pours a clear, dark, orangey brown with a small, rough, beige head. Lightly burned, peaty aroma. Medium in body with sweetish, roasted malt accents - almost port like - and some burned caramel. Almost no bitterness. Baltic Porter? 200208

Bottled. Dark brown, full creamy head. Coffee aroma. Medium sweet and medium bodied with pleasantly soft mouthfeel. There’s lots of roasty malt flavour and some more unexpected blueberries. Velvetty finish with fairly low bitterness.

Dark black beer. Nice milk chocolate aroma. A bit of roast, toast, and coffee in the nose as well. Sweet full-bodied palate with a very creamy texture. Flavour is also sweet, rich chocolate, some toasted malts and a touch of herbal character as well. Another great brew from Wanaka.

The beer highlight of my recent New Zealand trip was finding the microbrews from Wanaka Beerworks. All are terrific. This one pours a dark brown. Roasted malt with a sweet chocolaty, toasty, caramel palate. Delicious.

330ml bottle. Looks good when poured but it didn’t really produce the goods overall when it came to enjoyability. Deep and bold black with a crisp crackling tan head and a smoky burnt wood aroma. Good mouthfeel with a well balanced flavour and a burnt smoky aftertaste.
3.3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 13/20 TheGrandMaster (2335) - Auckland, NEW ZEALAND - JAN 28, 2008
Bottle. The toasted malt flavour was very enjoyable, with coffee and a little bit of chocolate. The hop presense is subtle. I like.
