A beer with a story behind and a flavour to accentuate spring time. When the miners settled in Central Otago they used rosehip as the main ingredient for their tea. The flavours used in teas and beer carry a close relationship as they both propel a certain bitterness. By using the rosehip Wanaka Beerworks combine the vegetable bitterness of the hop with the fruity bitterness of the rosehip.

Quite enjoyable. Very sweet chocolate and flower garden aroma. The malt smells really thick, yet itís actually quite thin in the mouth. Taste is smooth and pleasant light chocolate and malt at the front, a bit of fruit (maybe very light peach?) amongst the darker notes in the middle then finishes with a light dusting of cocoa powder.

Dark black in colour , thin coffee coloured head. Spicy aroma. Warm chocolaty flavour.

Hazy dark brown colour with a coffee-cream coloured head that vanished in quick time and clung to the sides of the glass. Thereís a vegetal-floral scent along with an undercurrent of chocolate and cocoa, allspice and marmite. While the individual ingredients of the aroma are good in themselves, it doesnít really warm me to this beer as a whole. The first taste is a cooling flush with subtle carbonation and then the flavours of chocolate and rosewater comes and sits warmly on the palate with some tingly bitterness. The second tasting brings stewed apples and pipfruit with marmite on toast. This beer has potential and while it seems likeable enough, isnít quite there yet. I picture this as an autumnal warmer by the fire with a nice mouldy blue cheese. I might buy another to test this hypothesis.
