330ml, (229mm tall) bottle. Dark brown hue with a rich deep ruby tint, small beige foamy head quickly diminishes to a thin coffee crema ring. Delicious coffee, cocoa powder, milk chocolate nose with a hint of shea butter and nuttiness. Roasted, toasted almost burnt malt aromas come along with the flavour. Taste is an appealing medium sweet with a moderate to long duration, with subtle but noticeable sourness. Medium body, soft carbonation, lightly oily velvety texture, and a dry slightly astringent finish. Yom yom. Possibly the beer that got me into the world of craft beer 10 years ago when I had it at the brewery. Thanks to Sue for supplying the Wanaka Beerworks trifecta for a pleasant reminiscent walk down memory lane.

Bottle thanks to dlau. Pours a very dark brown with a smallish tan coloured head. Aromas of roasted grain and a little light bitter chocolate. Some alcohol as well. Flavour is dominated by the roasted grain. A little thin.

Bottled. A dark brown beer with a thin brown head. The aroma has notes of caramel, malt, and nuts, as well as a lighter note of roasted malt. The flavor is sweet with strong notes of caramel, combined with medium notes of sweet malt, and lighter notes of roasted malt, and metal.

330ml bottle. Looks good when poured but it didn’t really produce the goods overall when it came to enjoyability. Deep and bold black with a crisp crackling tan head and a smoky burnt wood aroma. Good mouthfeel with a well balanced flavour and a burnt smoky aftertaste.

Bottle, 11C. Dark brown with a small tan head. Aroma has light roasted malt, lager sourness, chocolate, a little grass. Tastes of Coke-like caramel, chocolate and mild roasted malt. Mild roasted dry finish. A Schwarzbier from central casting but not very exciting for me. Good to see the Kiwi basketball team gets a beer, though.

300 ml bottle Appearance: Transparent reddish dark brown. Off white head, large and fine froth with thick swiss cheese lacing; Aroma: alcohol and yeast, a smidgen of chocolate and a sour citrus; Taste: mildly yeast and sour and bitter. Palate: Light bodied, effervescent, thin texture; Overall: I would think it should be marketed as a lite brown ale. There is nothing stout about this stout. It is palatable but not a repeater.

Brownish, with pale-to-light brown head. Dry roasty aroma. Flavour has pleanty of roastyness, a little smoke and a hint of coffee. Pleanty of body for a schwarz. It’s all right.
