A perilously strong, rich amber English barleywine made with phenomenal amounts of Maris Otter malt and Target, Progress, First Gold and Challenger hops. 44 IBUs. Brewed in October 2011, this beer will mature for years but is already smooth, complex and fruity with a substantial hop and alcohol structure to allow for graceful ageing. Named after an ancient, giant (180’ tall) fertility symbol cut into the chalk downs of SW England.

Draught at the Gingerman NYC sept 2012. Muddy brown beer with a small offwhite head. Hoppy, dried dark fruits aroma. Similar flavour.

Nice deep amber pour. Sweet aroma with breads, fruits, and a touch of booziness. Rude Man is a nice barleywine with everything I look for in the style, nice malt sweetness (caramel, toffee), great dark fruit notes (figs, plums, raisins), a little bit of roastiness and hop presence, and a touch of booziness at the end. It warms you up but stays clean and easily consumable.

A hazed copper barley wine with a thin light mocha head. In aroma, a beautiful mix of figs, dark fruits, musty and nice. In mouth, a nice sweet malt with orange pulp, vinous malt, light signs of oxidation, interesting. On tap at Ginger Man NYC, Sept 21, 2012.

Tap at an almost completely empty Gingerman except me and my thoughts. Pours amber with small head and nose of dark fruits. Tastes of pleasant cough syrup, plums, bready, some hops. I do pick up quite a bit of booze but overall I enjoyed it

Draught at Ginger Man, NYC. Somewhat hazy amber/copper beer with a nice beige head. Malty nutty aroma, vinous, grassy, hay, figs, banana, plums, roasted, toffee, caramel notes. Malty nutty flavor, toffee, vanilla, caramel, figs, plums, dades, hop notes, a little roasted. Malty fruity finish, toffee, caramel and some warming alcohol.

Draft. Pours amber with an off white head. Sweet malty aroma with lighter bready notes. The flavor has sweet toffee and bready malts, with light earthy, and almost smokey, notes. Decent.

Draft at Gingerman. Pours caramel brown. Nose/taste of sweet toffee, mixed fruits malt, grains and bread. Taste is similar - on the bready side. Medium body. Alcohol well hidden.

Draft at Mugs Alehouse. Authentic in appearance and taste, this is a straight up barley wine that allows simple flavours to work together nicely. Alcohol is surprisingly well hidden considering the abv, It has an earthy yet clean taste to it with some dried fruits but nothing too rich.

Growler filled at the brewery into a 20oz pilsner. Aroma is a cascade of fresh fruit, along the line of being not yet ripe yet. Also a defining malt presence serves an ample backbone to this masterpiece. Color is a strong dark amber with chocolate highlights as well as deep rustic mohogany. The abv is well masked which allows four full enjoyment of this brew and does not hinder on ones session with sturggling to get though a glass. But slow and steady does win the race with the subject in question. Rasins, figs and slowed burned wood chips also make an appearance in the taste. The best thing about this b-wine is that it is not too heavy on the pallate. This wandering star place really knows where its at. Up next, their bish bash bock.
