COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Since 1769, ISENBECK has been a worthy ambassador and a shining example of Germany's outstanding brewing tradition. This tradition was the inspiration for this honest and unique dark beer. ISENBECK Dark is a classic strong beer with an unmistakably full-bodied and slightly malty aromatic taste. It is produced by the Paderborner brewery, a company that for many years has been making the finest beer specialities according to traditional brewing methods in the German city of Paderborn. ISENBECK Dark is also brewed in the C.A.S.A. Isenbeck brewery in Zarate near Buenos Aires, Argentina.

Poured from a liter into a wine-style glass to drink. The beer was a black-brown color with a very small, creamy white head that had very little retention and a little cling. The aroma featured chocolate and coffee malt with some grainy and earthy hops. It tasted sweet and malty with a bit of chocolate, and some mild bitterness too. The beer was smooth and had an average mouthfeel with very little carbonation and was somewhat wet.

Bottle at Buller Downtown Brewpub, Buenos Aires, Argentina. Unbalanced mild caramel malt aroma & flavour. Dark brown colour. Quite smooth.

On tap poured into a stein. Dark caramel color with almost no head - but I blame that on the restaurant, not the carbonation of the beer. Aroma and taste is subtle caramel and roasted nuts, some grain character in the finish. Clean, watery palate. Not very exciting. I would give it another chance only if it were served fresh at the brewery in Germany.

UPDATED: DEC 13, 2009 On tap; browny red color. Aroma was somewhat sweet, somewhat nutty. Flavor was OK, not as good as other german dunkels. I found it very mild, almost watery

Clear medium red brown color with a average to large, frothy, good lacing, mostly lasting, off-white to light beige head. Aroma is moderate malty, roaasted, caramel, brown sugar, sweet malt, bread notes. Flavor is moderate sweet and light bitter with a average to long duration. Body is medium, texture is watery to oily, carbonation is soft. [20090920]

Ranks as a 7-plus. Certainly the darkest German beer I’ve come across, not that there have been many (yet). Poured, looked, "nosed", and tasted quite nicely. Worth visiting again.

Bottle reads ’Best Before: Sept 02 1998’. So this is about 10.5 years aged (..or expired..). A couple sips shouldn’t kill me. Pour is brown, hints of light brown. nose is roasted malts. Taste is sour, metallic and apples?? Quick! someone call the ambulance... throats closing !

Had on tap in Kimberley, BC. Pours a dark brown colour with a medium sized frothy off white head. An aroma of nuts and roasted malts. Taste is slightly bitter with the predominant flavour being roasted malts. Pretty good beer. Have definately had better dunkels.

Pours with some tan head which quickly subsides for the most part. Is a quite dark brown with hints of orange, red, and amber highlights. Has a malty and slightly roasty aroma. Cereal, malty, slightly bittersweet flavor. A tad soft though thin mouth. Had worse. Pretty ho-hum. Having a can of this Argentine version in my apartment downtown Buenos Aires.

Stock/macro aroma if any at all. Smells mass-produced. Dark garnet color and a thin head. Similarly, a thin mouthfeel and body. Good carbonation though. Not complex but innocuous enough.
