3.5 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
Solid beer, not outstanding but much better than other German darks. Like it says, clean dark light bodied lager. No heavy aftertaste, slightly malty, roasted malts come through as it warms. Some bitterness, not much in the aftertaste. Pretty close to the textbook definition of a dunkel.

On tap at the Warsteiner tasting at Eli Cannon's on April 24th, 2003. Dark brownish black, with a red hue through the light. Puffy almond head that quickly dimishes, but most likely because of the burger I was eating at the time. Smells mildly roasty and light, with a crisp clean lager-ish quality. Flavor is light and roasty. Very clean, well done. Aftertaste is very mild, leaving little flavor to be wanting more, but still a very good pint. I'd take another.

UPDATED: JAN 6, 2004 Light malt aroma, light sweet flavor, weak mouthfeel, dark color, nothing about this would make me want to drink it again.

3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 17/20
Has a brown color with some carbonation and a roasted malt smell. Taste is of roasted malts and finshes with a nice bitterness. Overall a very good dark German beer.

2.7 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 10/20
Light brown - poured with a small short head. I got way too much sweetness in this, almost like someone added high fructose corn syrup. Not horrible, but not all that great either.

2.9 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
Chestnut brown; light nutty caramel aroma; nutty palate, good soft malt character. Sweetish, touch sugary...simple, relatively light but enjoyable.

Pours a dark reddish brown with a thin white head. Flavor is roasty and malty. Slight caramel and chocolate malts are noticable. Very smooth and easy to drink.

3.3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 13/20
Draft version. Colour is a dark ruby-brown with on off-white head that leaves some nice lace. Aroma is very mild with a hint of malt. Mouthfeel is creamy, but on the thin side. Flavour holds sweet caramel malt with some light hop bitterness in the background as it finishes. Pleasant, but nothing special.

UPDATED: MAR 5, 2003 Smooth with a medium feel and roasty malt flavor over all. Nice body. Malt in the nose, but not much else. In a session, with a meal, very good. Unremarkable overall. Quality but without distinction. Props for being easy to find.
