2.9 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 12/20
Dark brown, slightly translucent. Smallish, foamy head. Pretty good lacing. Malty, slightly grainy aroma, maybe a touch of cardboard. A bit watery on the palate. Some slight coffee notes. Clean finsih with a touch of hops.

3.3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
UPDATED: JUN 4, 2003 This brew poured a dark transparent brown body with a small head of white bubbles. It had a malty aroma as well as an initially bitter taste that lingered around for a while. Its lacing was good, but overall not one of the better Dunkels. Pass.

It's been years since I had the Warsteiner Premium Verum, which I very much dislike, so I enter this beer with both hope and fairly low expectations. This beer starts off a fairly nice dark reddish amber with a quickly fading light tan head. The aroma is NOT impressive. Kind of a stinky mix of yeast and wheat...not overly pleasant. The flavor is alright. It's fairly thin and doesn't last on the tongue at all. Decent, though, while it lasts.

3.3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Medium brown color. Medium head. Aroma is malty. A medium bodied dunkel. Malts are slightly roasted and a touch chocolaty. Hops are mild spicy. Well balanced. Smooth. Light and refreshing. Mouthfeel is full. Finish is clean and smooth. Aftertaste is slightly sweet.

I really like this Dunkel, smooth and strong, slightly malty with good clean aftertaste.

I've enjoyed every dunkel I've had, and this beer is no different. I couldn't get too much aroma out of this, but what was there was agreeable. Very smooth going down with some bitterness.

3.5 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
Solid beer, not outstanding but much better than other German darks. Like it says, clean dark light bodied lager. No heavy aftertaste, slightly malty, roasted malts come through as it warms. Some bitterness, not much in the aftertaste. Pretty close to the textbook definition of a dunkel.

On tap at the Warsteiner tasting at Eli Cannon's on April 24th, 2003. Dark brownish black, with a red hue through the light. Puffy almond head that quickly dimishes, but most likely because of the burger I was eating at the time. Smells mildly roasty and light, with a crisp clean lager-ish quality. Flavor is light and roasty. Very clean, well done. Aftertaste is very mild, leaving little flavor to be wanting more, but still a very good pint. I'd take another.

UPDATED: JAN 6, 2004 Light malt aroma, light sweet flavor, weak mouthfeel, dark color, nothing about this would make me want to drink it again.
