2.5 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 10/20
UPDATED: AUG 1, 2007 Bottle (BB 04/08). Head is initially small, frothy, light brown, fully diminishing. Body is medium to dark brown. Aroma is lightly to moderately malty (toasted grain, caramel, roasted nuts), lightly hoppy (herbs), with a light note of DMS. Flavor is moderately sweet, lightly bitter. Finish is lightly sweet, moderately bitter. Light to medium body, watery texture, lively carbonation. Rather cookie-cutter and indistinctive.

had it on tap at a local bar. Not a lot of hop taste.. more malty. Was smooth and refreshing overall.

Didn’t really care for this. It’s average and for 5 bucks a pint, I think not! Aftertaste is a bit overwhelming.

This is not a bad beer by any means. Much better than the premium pils.

3.4 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
UPDATED: OCT 6, 2003 Rerate 10/06/03: Tried the draught version, and I'm not sure what I was talking about earlier. Light flavor, light body? Who knows. Dark reddish-brown with a thin beige head. The aroma is lightly nutty. It is light-bodied for a Dunkel, with notes of coffee and nuts. The finish is crisp which makes this a decent session beer overall. However it lacks any real character or complexity. 02/16/02 (3.4): Deceptively smooth-textured considering how dark it is. Since it is so light I would definitely choose over the Premium Verum. If it is going to be light it might as well taste good, and this one does. The aroma stood out a little more than the flavor, which I found to be very straight-forward.

3.8 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 17/20
This one is hard to describe. There is almost no nose. It goes down like water. Very smooth. I have never had this dark of a beer be so smooth. Not much head, either.

2.4 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 8/20
So happy to find this in the French Quarter during Mardi Gras. There are actualyl quite a few places to grab some real brews here though I’ve seen some very old labels and it does it get pretty hot here during the summers -- it’s good to look for signs of good storage if you do find a rarity here. Anyway, this one was black with off white foam, a small perfume nose, a light medium body effervescent body and medium bitter finish with roasty hues. Not bad!

this beer is damn good...I am a pretty big fan of it...I drank 8 liters the other night and didn’t even feel bad the next morning...for me a true sign of a well brewed beer.

This is a good beer to me. I like the dark beers. Kinda expensive here in the states though.
