very frothy head, but i’m afraid of the dark

Really good beer. Has a good bite, and has about the same aftertaste as a heineken, although smoother.

UPDATED: JUL 5, 2004 Even though I don't rate to style, strange beers like this give me pause. In a blind tasting I would never guess this was a dunkel nor do I think I could distinguish this from the same brewer's pale lager/pilsner. Thus, I pause to worry whether they used dark malts at all in the brewing of this. For me not even a hint of caramelized melanoidiny flavors. Is it just caramel color added? On its own merits, a mediocre beer. Light somewhat adjuncty malts, a fizz of grassy hops near the finish, which is thin and near empty. Forget it.

I swear this is Warsteiner Verum with caramel coloring added. If I were drinking this beer blindfolded I wouldn’t think it was dark. No hint of Chocolate or even Caramel malt. Has that same earthy gypsum flavor as the regular Warsteiner. Must be from the water supply but whatever that flavor is, I don’t like it. This is a very ordinary beer - not much different from Michelob Dark. Yawn.

Aroma was bad, not comproable to the complex taste. Very dark but not heavy beer, with a nice taste.

Dunkel remind me a lot of brown ales, and this is no exception. A fine black beer.

Sublime! Great beer with an increasingly large following by people who know good beer when they taste it (not one for pig swill drinkers)

Drinkable, not bad, but probably not something I will buy again.

This is ok, but I wouldn’t buy it again
