So, I’ve always kinda complained about how Warsteiner is a shitty example of German beer. Especially the Dunkel. But upon my last tasting, it started to grow on me a bit. Maybe it took pouring it into a nice clear stein to see it’s mahogany, oaky, copper color and nicely sustaining frothy white head. The aroma is rather nice too; very sweet and malty with caramel and a hint of cocoa. The flavor is the only thing that is left to be desired next to a higher quality dunkel. Yet it is still flavorful enough to enjoy while being rather light and refreshing. Cocoa and vanilla with roasted malts. Nice, medium finish. Not too shabby. But no Ayinger Altbairisch Dunkel..

Draft at Mecklenburg Gardens, served in a pint glass. Pours a mostly clear chestnut-cocoa brown with a finger of beige head that settles into a ring. Notes of caramel, nuts, toast, chocolate, tobacco, earth, wood, and a faint mineral note that shows up in the flavor. Light-bodied, with moderate carbonation and an earthy, toasty mouthfeel. It actually exceeded my expectations; I don’t like the flagship Warsteiner beer and ordered this because it was something new, and one of the most-rated beers that I hadn’t tried yet. So based on my low bar, not bad.

Pours a dimly transparent dark copper from bottle. Aroma of grass and roasted barley. Tastes sweet up front, reasonable malt complexity, and not much to say about the hops. A toasty/burned bread flavor lingers. Light bodied and light carbonation. Overall decent beer but I'm not such a big fan of the style. Caught somewhere between a grassy pils lager and a dark ale. To each their own. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Old rating. Pours a brownish red color with a quickly dissipating white head. Not much aroma present...slight hint of malt. Taste has a metallic sting to it. Undertones of caramel and toffee. Overly carbonated. Light-bodied. Ehhh.

12 ounce bottle pours a brown red combination color. Whitehead dissipates quickly. Very sweet caramel aroma not much hops smell at all. Very multi flavor with a little bit of roasted taste. Not much yeast character with any banana or clove.

This "light bodied clean dark lager" is best left at that. Better than slurping down a typical macro Lager, this cola-looking quaff has a real metallic twang to it that is had to look past. Nutty, roasty, earthy chocolate and coffee notes attempt to peer through the steel haze. Thin bodied and with mid carbonation, this is a brew I am glad to have tried. Once.

Assez ordinaire. Les malts allemands ressortent très peu. Petite touche de torréfaction

pours cola brown with a medium tan head. aroma is malt and chocolate. Satiny smooth mouth feel. Taste is semi-sweet with definite chocolate notes. Medium length warming finish. Very little alcohol presence. Pretty good beer.
