Very nice dark amber color, but head is not there for a 5/5. Smells bitter and of dark malts. Taste is of roasted dark malts, maybe some molasses. Palate is a bit thin. Overall, a good beer.

Rated based on notes taken 29 Sep 2012 -- Ahhh this brings me back to college. I used to drink Warsteiner all the time! A decent German example of a Dunkel. There’s better out there, but this one will do.

Pours a yellow colour no head or lacing. Slight malty aroma. Light malt taste with a little citrus hop taste. It’s OK, as a lawn mower beer.

Pours dark red to brown with a white head. Aromas of malt and caramel. Taste is slightly complex with taste of the same with, toast, vanilla. Nice lager nothing special but worth a buck for a 16 oz can.

Nothing flashy here, but a solid dark lager, one that the States just can’t seem to get right. Chestnut color with thin white head. Smooth caramel/toffee malt light bodied, a bit nutty, faint floral hops. Refreshing for a dark beer.

500 ml can, poured into a mug at ~40 degrees F. Appearance: Pours a clear hickory brown, and forms a thick, fluffy head of pale off-white foam with good retention. Lacing is decent. Smell: Bread, mild toffee, and something vaguely floral waft out of the glass. Taste: See "Smell". The taste opens with bread and mild toffee, with hints of faint light caramel. That is joined by some floral and spicy notes as the beer moves along, and the aftertaste is a lingering mix of all of the above. Mouthfeel: Thin and light-bodied, without ever quite getting all the way to watery. Overall: A decent Munich dunkel, especially for the price point I paid for this batch of $1 per half-liter!

Draft at Mecklenburg Gardens, served in a pint glass. Pours a mostly clear chestnut-cocoa brown with a finger of beige head that settles into a ring. Notes of caramel, nuts, toast, chocolate, tobacco, earth, wood, and a faint mineral note that shows up in the flavor. Light-bodied, with moderate carbonation and an earthy, toasty mouthfeel. It actually exceeded my expectations; I don’t like the flagship Warsteiner beer and ordered this because it was something new, and one of the most-rated beers that I hadn’t tried yet. So based on my low bar, not bad.
