Courtesy of Philippe (Bov) and Laurent Mousson, aluminium bottle
Scum under the cap; muddy amber color; poor head retention. Aroma of dirty water and sugary malt (light); light alcohol and very light chemicals (e.g. phenols). Alcoholic booze, a bit oily, with sweet flavor, some malt, but mostly white sugar; it also has a light nutty touch; low bitterness and short final. It reminds me some of the worst English attempts.

Barleywine by the lable with a highly fruity aroma, notes of vanilla and something else. The flavor has more caramel and cellar notes. Plain yellow color. Not great. Bottle shared at RBSG 2009 grand tasting.

Big ups to Philippe for this one. Nice hazy ruby copper pour with frothy white head and nice retention on the sides. This is a viscus, almost brothy looking brew. Very pretty. Sugar plum visions dance on the olfactory and there is a vineous, almost brandyish quality there too. The sugary sweet body is shaking hands with some petite bittering and dusty wooden branches. Honey and sour apples linger on the finish and there is a flushing heat to the face and a medicinal warming in the mouth.

Bottled 75cl. Number: 327. It pours a chestnut colored beer with a small tanned head. The nose is of honey, spices and banana. Strange taste. The alcohol is extremely well hidden. Low bitterness and carbonation. Sweet with a lot of banana, honey and spices showing up, primarily coriander. Mediocre mouthfeel. Acidic. Beautiful lacework. Coconut sneaking in. Slight alcohol just before the finish which is pretty weak. Some coriander appearing. Extremely drinkable.

750. Crystal clear golden amber. Dense creamy white head. Sweat sock nose. Creamy, buttery body. Creamy, buttery flavors. Mild finish. If you’re going to go to all the trouble to ship this beer from Switzerland to Washington state, at least clean up the obvious problems like diacetyl first.
