COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Offered from January 15-through May 1st. This ale has the perfect blend of caramel & chocolate malts, which creates a smooth, nutty palate with ample additions of Willamette hops for their spicy aromatics.

Bottle from Sun Devil in Mesa, AZ. Pours cola color with a tan head. Has that brown roasted malt aroma. Near medium body with frothy carbonation. First hit is coarse chocolate. Chocolate really dominates this one. Malt is hardly noticeable until the finish. There’s some hop spice too. You could sell this as a Xmas ale.

Bottle poured a clear reddish brown with a small diminishing amber head. Aromas of toasted malt, carmel and nuts. Palate was light bodied and smooth. Flavors of toasted malt, carmel and a hint of chocolate with a smooth finish.

Brown pour with a medium off white head. Strong honey notes, buckwheat pancakes and freshly made waffles. Flavor is heavy on the waffle notes. Wheres the maple syrup! I actually like the waffle/pancake notes here.

12oz bottle pours a nice clear brown with copper hues and tan head. The aroma offers up a bit of esters and then some dusty nuttiness, nut shells, earthy malts and some roasted malts. The taste has a nice rich mix of roasted malts, nuttiness and a bit of earthy malts. It then picks up a brief poke of esteriness before it gets a dryer sensation with some astringent roasted malts. Interesting brown.

Bottle courtesy of douglas88. Pours copper with a thin white head. Smells of caramel, some chocolate, spices, some fruit, dough. Tastes of caramel, some sweet malt and tea. Decent.

Bottle:   Deep chestnut, moderate finely bubbled head, decent lacing.   Malty nose, rather nutty.   Certainly comes across as a Brown.   Low hop on the tongue, as expected, nice malt backing, a little nutty, slight hint of chocolate malt.   Falls off quickly, flavorwise.   Fairly clean, a little bit of earth on the finish.   Could be a bit bigger in body as it does seem on the lighter side.   Okay beer, but very mediocre.   Nothing to set it apart from others.   Wouldnt pass it down if offered, but wouldnt seek it out again.

Bottle. Pours a light brown with a nice light beige head. The aroma is really light; some spices, nutmeg and gingerbread cookies. The taste is simple and smooth; some spices, nuts, caramel and a dry finish. Decent. Of course the ABV is low, and needs more fullness. But drinkable.

On cask. Nothing to make this beer stand either way. Smooth and nutty, drinkable enough. Lacks the bitter finish I’d have liked to have had. (#3837, 2/11/2010)

Bottle: auburn color with a nice head. Nose of caramel and thin body. The flavor is balanced, but in a you can’t taste anything way. Chewy flavor, metallic raisin and some stale hop notes. Not that exciting, especially since it seems like most brewers really pride themselves on brown ales in the state.

Like many of their beers, this is not well balanced. The malts overpower the hops, and leave you with a strange, choclate-hop taste. Little aroma. Decent mid-brown color. Could not even finish my sample.
