draft. sparkling gold with a faint haze with a fine-bubbled white head. nose is mild creamy yeast and pulpy chile peppers (bright and zesty, though also somewhat brine-like). up front: medium thin body, mild to medium sweetness. middle: increasing sweetness, mostly pale malt. finish: moderately frothy, mildly sweet pale malt turning to more brine-like pickled peppers with requisite heat. I’m a sucker for chile beer so they don’t have to be well done for me to enjoy their novelty. this one could use some work but in a fix it hits the spot.

Growler from the Brewer’s Co-op. Pours a clear golden hue with a medium white head. What an interesting nose; huge very distinct jalapenos, very vegetable-like and nice, smells like a pepper plant . The flavor is a creamy malty smooth flavor, but large hot peppers in the finish. Lots of full jalapeno in this; the vegetable smoothness and hot fire spiciness. Massive congrats to Ray and the crew for having the balls to brew this. I’d say the drinkability is not near most due to the heat, but it is well done.

Appearance: Poured slightly hazy golden with a small white head and some lacing
Aroma: Wow, fresh jalapeno’s and lots of them. It smelt like I had just cut open a fresh jalapeno and stuck my nose in it
Taste: Creamy mouthfeel of caramel and peppers. After that initial swallow, the slight burn starts to kick in
I wasn’t sure about this, but I really liked it. Just like eating spicy Mexican food, you can’t get enough.

Sampled on draft. Pours a cloudy golden-orange color with a decently formed white head. The jalapeno really comes out on the aroma. Smells very nice and I have to give them credit here because a lot of pepper beers fail at that. The flavor has a pale malt base that gives way to a solid jalapeno punch. Very fresh-tasting. Smooth and creamy on the mouthfeel with medium-light body. This is a subtle but very well-done beer overall. Doesn’t try to do too much, and I respect that. Very drinkable pepper session beer.

Draft at brewpub. Another stone cold killer. Pours yellow with a finger of white head and lots of effervescence. The taste is mellow but flavorful. The peppers give flavor without heat. They almost have a roasted quality. It pairs beautifully with the fish and chips. Clean finisher. Fantastic!

On draft at 1702 in Tucson AZ. Pours a clear gold with a white head. Jalapeño nose. Quite a kick but smooth underneath the heat.

on tap in park city 7/21/10. pale copper tinted golden with a white head and a ton of lace. it smells immediately of capsicum... followed by green peppery heat, vegetal sweetness, malt, florals and a faint earthy/savory/umami thing going on. the flavor has some spiciness but the pepper feels sweeter and juicy rather than hot. the finish is full of black peppercorn which lingers in the aftertaste with some earthiness. creamy and smooth are balanced by the light spice. nice. 6.5/3/6.5/3/15/3.3+

On tap @ 1702 - Pours a slightly hazy golden color with a small off white head. Nice layered lacing. Aroma is light grain and chili pepper. Flavor is lightly sweetened malt and light jalapeno. Very little heat. Smooth finish, medium body. Probably the best chili beer I’ve had.

[Tap] Sampled on tap at 1702 in mid-January. Clear, golden pour with a small pillow of white head. Spicy pepper aroma with general pepper heat in the aroma. The taste is of jalapeno, green peppers, vegetables, grassy notes and light caramel. Persistent pepper heat throughout the flavor grows more intense in the finish. Decent mouthfeel and palate. Pretty good for the style. Definitely one of the better pepper beers I have had.
