Tough to call it a Porter. I cannot blame Wasatch as Utah has strict ALC % laws. light sweetness

Tasting at Matt’s
Dark brown color, near black, small head. A bit of dark caramel, a bit of dust, light residual sweetness, maybe a hint of lactose and dark chocolate, and not enough character.
Not bad, but shallow.

12 oz. bottle, pours a deep dark brown with a small beige head. Nose brings out stale coffee grounds and light toasted malt. Flavour is pretty dry and toasted, but without much character or complexity, with toasted malt and stale coffee grounds. Nothing offensive, but nothing special either. Meh.

12 oz bottle. BB 02/28/15. (Whole Foods) Las Vegas, NV.
Black colour with a tiny light tan ring. Cookies, chocolate and mild coffee... oh yeah... some roasted malt too. And that’s the aroma. The flavour however is roasted malt, dark chocolate, mild coffee and some mild bitterness. Oily. A bit watery. But hey... it’s only 4%.

Pours cola brown with some frothy head and some lacing. Nose is quiet, some vanilla. Flavours of vanilla, some light coffee, some chocolate. Taste light/med sweet and light bitter. Light foamy body with light carbonation.

Pours black, nice thick tan head that dissipates quickly. Aroma is light coffee, a bit of roasted malts, a bit of char. Taste is much better than the aroma, nice coffee favors, a bit of sweet chocolate, toasted malts and a bit of faint fruitiness. Thin mouthfeel, highly carbonated. Pretty average porter.

Bottle. Pours a near-black color with a rather small tan head on there. Nose is roasty with a little bit of bread in there. Taste is nicely roasty with some hints of coffee to it. Really nice easy drink for a porter.

Bottle in Moab.

Brown pour with ruby highlights and a small head. Pretty much had to try this classic as well. I don’t really get the hate. Maybe people just aren’t into the 4% thing? Me, I think it’s great if you can pull off a decent beer at that ABV, and these guys have nailed it. Mild roast and chocolate, just a hint of ash, some coffee, some licorice -- there’s plenty going on here. Sure, it’s not big and sticky, but that’s a substantial part of the appeal. Really nice porter.

Clear, light copper, smoky color, tall, persistent head. Pronounced yeasty nose. Extra-light body, weak and simple flavor, balanced in its weakness, well carbonated, good length. Sweet & sour, Roast flavors, barley candy, ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone
