A quite nice double bock. Pours a deep Amber with a tan head. Smells of malt and vanilla. Taste is sweet, with a bit of booze, vanilla and a sweet marshmallow finish. Had in the bottle at Zion Pizza and Noodle.

RSRIZZO (1882) - Colorado Springs, Colorado, USA - MAY 15, 2015
12oz bottle poured into a Stem glass at 40°. Color is a dark clear amber with mellow carbonation and a thin tight head. Aroma is sweet with scents of malt and fruit. It has a medium body with a creamy mouth feel. Flavor is sweet with candy sugar and dark fruit then a note of hop spice and bitterness. After taste is a continuation of the sweet with just enough bitterness to leave it with a slightly dry feel. Overall it’s a good Doppelbock, easy enough to drink and not too sweet.

Type: 12-oz. can Glass: Pilsner glass From: Utah State Liquor Store #06 in Logan, Utah Price: $1.89 Purchased: May 2, 2015 Consumed: May 12, 2015 Misc.: Enjoy by Aug. 23, 2015 Poured a reddish, brown, amber semi-clear color with four fingers of khaki tan, frothy head that immediately started dissipating. Minimal wet lacing on the sides of the glass. Poor retention. (Sight - 3.75) Smelled booziness right up front, followed by caramel, plum, roasty malts, honey nuts, toffee and dark red apple. (Smell - 3.88) Taste was slightly better than the nose, coming in with rich, creamy, roasty malts, caramel, roasty nuts, plum and very light chocolate. The 8 percent ABV is hidden. (Taste - 4.25) Medium body. Creamy texture. Average-to-soft carbonation. Smooth finish. (Feel - 4.25) This beer really grew on me. Maybe I just enjoy the style, but I was really digging it. Wish I had more than one. (Overall - 4.13) 4.13 92 A-

Bottle from shop in Springdale UT pour dark copper with minimal tan head. Nose burnt caramel, slight earthy, and an underlying hint of charred meat. Taste caramel malt, sweeter character, hint of molasses and butterscotch later. Some lingering aftertaste.

Deep copper color, crystal clear with a big rocky tan head. Smells of rich malty sweetness and toasty melanoidins. Taste leads with sweet malt, moves to a subtle fruitiness, and finishes with nice toast note. Alcohol is dangerously subtle. Very tasty and drinkable.

From a bottle into a Scotch Silly tulip glass. Pours brown with head and lace. Aroma of roasted malts, biscuit-scones. Significant carbonation and mouthfeel. Flavors of dark roasty malts, caramel, minerals, cola, dk chocolate. Overall, big, bold, rich and tasty.

Pours a dark brown from a bottle. Nose is a coffee and caramel, flavor adds a slight smokiness. Not a balanced beer. Meh.

Clear garnet brown pour with a one finger, creamy khaki head that has great retention. Aroma is full of bready, toasty malt, some doughy yeast, a hint of rum, toffee and light herbal hops. Flavor is caramel, toffee, crusty bread, light resinous pine, cereal, dry hay, light nutty notes and some earthy, herbal and floral hops. Medium body, super chewy feel throughout and light, but somewhat sharp and blanketing carbonation. Pretty tasty stuff, a little on the sweet side for my taste, even for the style, but good.
